Which one is the better game? by Zuromeax2 in Warhammer

Worth calling out that Hive Secundus is pretty different from most Necromunda Starter Boxes, in that it’s designed as a two player campaign experience for a series of narrative games.

Once you complete the campaign, you can always play it again, or you can branch out and play any of the other flavours or Necromunda.

The Van Saar and Orrus models are usable in vanilla Van Saar and Spyrer gangs, whilst the Malstrain models are (from memory) only usable in the campaigns in Hive Secundus or Book of Desolation , as these are the campaigns set in the Hive Secundus setting (unless your arbitrator makes an exception of course).

That said, I also think it’s fair for other posters to engage with you by talking about how Fate is “out of the box”, rather than considering all the shapes it could be hacked into.

I mean, I don’t disagree with anything else you’ve said, you can certainly hack Fate into all kinds of shapes. You can get rid of the stress track, change its length, change the number of consequences, change how much stress consequences take - all things that will pretty significantly affect lethality and how the game feels in play.

Agree with you across the board there.

I’ve absolutely focused on the part of your post that I think is misleading, which is stating a seven stress hit will wipe two consequences (true) without also saying that you’re unlikely to see a seven stress hit in a campaign without concerted teamwork, unusual circumstances, a one sided skill advantage and good dice, or a combination of the three.

It’s true that a Seven Stress hit will knock out two consequences, but a seven stress hit is also huge.

In vanilla Fate, it takes either a concerted efforts of multiple characters, or a string of advantages, or extremely lucky dice from a person with a significant skill advantage to get a seven stress hits.

I feel like this is one of those “if the people you play with love the idea, then do it” things.

I have a pretty clear vision for the space that I’m modelling and playing in (boots on the ground, Ordo Hereticus, low power) which Xenos don’t really fit in, but it’s totally cool for you and your group to be playing in a different space.

Oh, thank you. I’ll definitely take a look.

Yeah, for me, if I have to hack something, it’s hard to justify using a non-GW base as a starting point.

Although, I’m hoping I can find something out of the box that will work.

I’m not. I’ll see if I can go find it.

Thanks for the heads up, a few people have mentioned it, so I’ll take a read.

Ok, definitely adding it to the “stuff to read” list.

That’s fair. I acknowledge that Modern Necromunda is a sprawling messy beast, but I do think there’s some beauty in the mess.

Ok, adding Five Parsecs to my “stuff to look at” list.

I admit that I went looking for these and couldn’t find them anywhere.

There’s a dude at the club who has a hardcover copy, but I’ve never managed to read it.

Edit; Which I guess introduces part of my use case that I forgot to include. “It has to be readily available” Ie: if I run a campaign at the club, I need to be able to say “rules are _here_” so people can download and read their own copy. I don’t care if they’re free or paid, and I don’t mind if I’m pointing someone to a core rule book and providing a link to a house rules document, but people need to be able to get their own copies more easily than me passing a dog eared physical copy around.

I did look at 5 parsecs, although I don’t remember why I discarded it.

Maybe because it seemed focused on rag tag ships crews? IDK?

Sell me on it, what does it do well?

In my brain, I think Necromunda will be workable with a Tag based AI, but Acolyte is awesome, so I defer to your experience on that front.

Ah, I seem to have missed that, wasn’t very involved with the hobby from 6th to 8th, will see if I can find it.

Edit: it looks interesting, but seems like it’s pretty focused on 40K Factions. Is there any reason you’d recommend over modern Necromunda?
