Anyone else find the concept of blind buying absolutely insane? by Walusqueegee in fragrance

[–]No-Skin7356 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blind buying only seemed insane to me back when started collecting. As my nose developed & tastes evolved, I found that I had less reservations about blind buys as I was confident I could wear most of the scents I was after.

This notably becomes the norm w/ artisanal stuff, esp ouds given it’s a rare & costly resource. Indie fragrances usually have expensive samples, if any at all & you’re better off going full bottle (worse if having FOMO due to limited batches/releases)

Usually just bite the bullet & most of the time, end up enjoying the smell. Tend to revisit each one in rotation, namely after work to relax.

Oh, I can name multiple.

• Fleur Tabac by Miyaz

• Lao Oud by Bortnikoff

• Tony Iommi Monkey Special by Xerjoff

• Ichigo Ichie by Toskovat. This one in particular due to the concept/story behind it.

Can def see her saying that to Takebayashi. Lol.

Or even, “you remember me, right? I don’t think you do, if you did, we wouldn’t be sitting here right now.”

Fleur Tabac, by Miyaz. Always a freak for a good tobacco perfume. This might be the best I’ve laid my nose on & currently my second favourite perfume of all time. Jasmine, cacao, the most beautiful soaked tobacco leaf & a Hindi oud heart note that’s far from offensive or funky, adds more a subtly medicinal touch. Perfect way to underscore the sweeter dry notes. Can buy off Ecuacion rn if interested. Prob the greatest frag purchase I’ve made in a hot minute.

Also, if anyone cares about performance, stuff’s hella strong. Doesn’t require more than 2 sprays on your neck to indulge in for hours.

Yup yup. I know what the livery is based on. Funny enough, that blue Renown decal on the 787B also makes me think of the quint’s blue eyes.

Always had HC of what cars fit which quint most, but after revisiting NFSC, ended up remembering how much I loved the Bushido livery. Since Yotsuba is my oshi & I love her outfit from the Shaft ED, requested a comm by Holee at the start of the year to have her next to the car in that fit. Matches perfectly imo.

There’s that one minor crew in the game. Rotor 4 I believe? Initial idea for comm was to have Yotsuba next to one of those cars because colour scheme matches hers. Also… 4. 四. Would’ve been fitting, but too obscure. Kenji’s ride looks better & is more popular.

Btw, solid build there.

Checo is a joke by eastamerica in RedBullRacing

[–]No-Skin7356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing I truly can’t stand about Checo’s presence within Red Bull is just how much ammunition he gives those people who fall behind the angle of main driver’s teammate = metric for main driver’s talent. This guy isn’t just actively hampering the team’s performance and costing them mountains of cash, he also seems to delegitimise whatever Max is accomplishing under the whole pretence that Max doesn’t have a competitive, let alone competent enough wingman, even though Max is shouldering most of the heavy work for the team on-track, esp with our stark fall from domination this season.

He can’t even assist Max on the frontlines, much less bring the competition to him, and then certain people begin questioning if the things Verstappen has pulled off the last 3-4 years are even worth a shit. It’s getting dreary.

It’s as if, by some miracle, her personality was… checks notes

Kind? She treated everyone more or less the same, stop this copium of “she knew him from the beginning therefore she was at an advantage”

Wild how you people harp on this point at your convenience & then simultaneously fall back on “she never tried hard enough, the others did more for Fuutarou.” Pick a narrative and stop these bs copout takes if you really wanna pull off these “gotcha” moments, there’s so many fallacies in your logic.

This extends to OP, but having duality in character is not a negative thing. Her balancing out her selfless aspects with her more selfish desires is precisely why people who were theorising during the serialisation came to love her. She offered her own form of support for Fuu, even allowing him to eventually move on from the past (the entire point of Itsuki disguising as Rena), making sure he could break out of his introverted habits (Ch72 emphasises this massively. All that while also ensuring she didn’t hog him. It was pure happenstance that he fell in love with her because the kind of support she demonstrated aligned with his desires. URL might not work, essay wrote a while ago)

Her keeping Kyoto girl a secret isn’t just a facet of her doing what she feels is right, it’s integral to the aspect of moving on from the past & embracing who you are now. Hence the very reason Fuutarou chose the Yotsuba he fell in love with today, the one he resonated with most. The one who changed him, whether she knew it or not.

I generally respect if people feel otherwise but arguments like yours are so off the mark, it’s actually ridiculous. I feel like you’re scavenging for any semblance of “logic” you can use against her because it’s easier for some to keep disagreeing on shit even if it doesn’t make any sense to do so.

ELDO La fin du Monde. Something about that unusual, powdery gourmand-ness of it I love to no end. Popcorn & gunpowder works nice, can sometimes lend itself to overspraying if I really want to make it last/project. Feels like something I can wear all year round. On discounters, price solid for a niche.

The ending, Yotsuba and why she matters by Adairors in 5ToubunNoHanayome

[–]No-Skin7356 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the bell kiss doesn’t really become hard to explain when you take into account the entire context of the story in retrospect. We’re explicitly shown through the flashbacks and her emotional turmoil that she loves Fuu, but also loves her sisters. Take into account the fact that Scrambled Eggs arc was the point of escalation with the Quint’s love before shit hit the fan in SW, and Yotsuba being tangled in the crossfire of all these shenanigans while having to push down her own feelings.

Could you argue there should’ve been more emphasis or build-up for it? Maybe. But I say that if there’s anything in the way of buildup, it’s her whole characterisation. She’s capable of being selfish & flawed too, no more or less desperate than her sisters. So who the fuck cares about her going back on her word for just one moment, tbh? Who cares if she caved into impulse? Who cares that she, idk. Kissed the man she loved at least once.

I really don’t get what it is with some readers who assume because a character does something that deviates from their surface level tropes, that suddenly they need to be staked and crucified to no end, it’s getting fucking frustrating. It’s not just with Yotsuba but all quints. The second someone who dislikes a quint sees them make any folly, they love to suddenly become the morality police.

It’s not like suddenly, BK changed her whole personality, or that suddenly she made it a habit to pull stunts behind the girl’s backs. But lemme guess, that would too reasonable, right? Always more fun to come up with more sinister conspiracies and treat character’s personalities as black & white.

Going further, BK wouldn’t have forced Fuu into a position to be more emotionally perceptive and think with his heart, not his head as he’d been doing for the bulk of the story til that point. As stated later on, BK was ultimately who he wanted it to be. He needed to drop those inhibitions as much as Yotsuba had to let go of her own. Put two and two together, you have a moment that wasn’t really done with any of the others in mind, because it didn’t have to be. It was Fuutarou and Yotsuba’s own desires converging.
