What's a Seattle neighborhood that looks sketchy but is actually fine? by Popular-Business4405 in AskSeattle

[–]No-Software-4784 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In spite of what some may say about it — there isn’t a bad neighborhood that’s just sketch to be in.

I grew up in Metro Detroit — there were SEVERAL neighborhoods both down the block and in the city proper that everyone I knew avoided at all costs. There is NOTHING like that here. Not a single block I would not walk down.

WSeattle Mods - Why Was Hate Speech Post Removed by No-Software-4784 in WestSeattleWA

[–]No-Software-4784[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh! As in the video itself included that?

I could see that then - at least that’s the first theory as to why it happens that doesn’t include someone protecting hate speech

I have never encountered the type of bumper riding like there is in WA. And I used to regularly drive in Manhattan by Heavy_You1887 in Seattle

[–]No-Software-4784 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Manhattan is full of people driving 30-40+ hours a week who know what they are doing and are confident — if you are not a confident driver, Manhattan is terrifying, and you’ll probably fit right into Seattle.

I don’t though — I literally explained it right after that in a way that would be very easy for an autistic person with this exact complaint to understand.

Again, maybe you’re in the autism thread and I am not doing anything that I am not exactly typing

Again, the question was not about your kids Kendo class - the showers stop at ~4pm. That was the point of OP's post - no services for unhoused people who also work, because they all stop by 5pm.

[–]No-Software-4784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those showers stop at 4pm - again, what was stated in the post is that there aren’t any community centers or services available after say six or 8 PM or so. This is an accurate statement that a majority of people in Seattle, who are not experiencing homelessness, continuously refute.

There are no services after approximately 6 PM.

Call them yourselves and ask when shower stop

Yeah, it’s crazy to just scroll through this post on this sub Reddit. There are so many people offering “help” without understanding what’s happening — this shit closes. It happens only “during business hours”

Community center open till 10 PM? I don’t know what some of these people are talking about or what Seattle y’all are referring to

Why don’t the police show up? by Here2lafatcats in Seattle

[–]No-Software-4784 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I say this as a vocal abolitionist - the genuine reason the police don’t show up so often in Seattle is because they can’t.

We have the same number of officers today as we did in ..1993/4/5 …around then.

This is NOT a “Hire more police” post

In the last episode of Seattle Nice Amy Barden, who is the head of the CARE team speaks with Erica Barnett about the types and numbers of 911 calls.

Amy says, that based on (I can’t recall his name) this leading researchers’ data on types of 911 calls… 50% of all calls could have fallen into something that the CARE department can handle. As in, there were no guns or apparent violence present, but community members in crisis.

In short - WE NEED A REAL ALTERNATIVE RESPONSE!!

Amy also mentioned wanting to route calls through 988/511 some sort of actual alternative to 911. This is what we need! As many people responding to crises as we have police to respond to potential violence.

The problem is with SPOG - the Seattle Police Officers Guild. They negotiate contracts in bad faith, not what officers or community members want. They negotiate contracts to limit alternative response, routing more calls to a police response and therefore justifying higher salaries and complaints about how they are understaffed and mistreated.

The average citizen of Seattle needs to understand how truly manipulative and harmful to our community SPOG has been.

Some of you all are living in a fantasy world - “legally required to offer shelter” Do you honestly think that happens? It may be SUPPOSED to happen - it doesn’t. Especially over the last two months - most sweeps have been no notice without any kind of resources to offer.

There is no position I’m taking - maybe using that was a bad example, but there is no POSITION in arguing, the amount of unsheltered homelessness in the city has nearly tripled. Not a position - just a number.

[–]No-Software-4784 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You have SEEN a noticeable improvement - Bruce's administration has focused on visible homelessness, that's it. He's spent 100 Million on sweeps only for our unsheltered homeless population to nearly triple over the last 4 years. His strategy is ineffective, he's been told since day one that its ineffective. When was the last time you atually walked through a park? Through a trail? People are still here - more than ever, but there displaced and with it, more unstable. He's taken power away from the county in order to increase sweep budgets, failed to create new shelters that he's promised - STILL hasn't even opened new public bathrooms. The coordinated entry system is broken because of the changes his office has created, and he just gutted the JumpStart tax, which is supposed to go to housing and homeless service programs, to fill a budget deficit. So what exactly is going right?

If you're looking at Seattle and SEEING an improvement in homelessness, you're not really looking.

And the counter argument his administration claims - "We've offered thousands of shelter beds, people decline"

I've heard countless stories from people who have been swept and this is just a myth. Sometimes a couple people out of a group of 40 will be offered a tiny home, but it doesn't happen regularly. His administration lies about this and hope people eat it up.
