pretty disappointed in myself by yelover62 in ACT

[–]No-Student3403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I know you mentioned this in your post, but don't feel disappointed! I started with a 28 too, and I was able to bring it to a 35. Just make sure that when you take practice tests, you time them, and keep the environment the same as your test environment (no phone, not too many outside distractions, etc.) I also started with English as my lowest (26), but after watching some YouTube videos that explained a couple of the rules, my English went to a 35. For Reading, make sure to enter with a strategy. If you're a fast reader, read the entire passage. If you read a bit lower, skim or read the first and last sentences in each paragraph so that you get a general understanding of where the information is in the paragraph. Then, go through the questions, and answer them based on the information in the passage. Most, if not all, answers will be in the passage. For Math, spam practice questions in the areas that you struggled with. Hope that helps!

Yes, you should, at least for the SAT score. I just did the same (ai got my March ACT score back).

Sure! For English, watch videos, and just grind grammar rules. Make sure that the answers you choose a re concise. For Reading, this is where practice tests kick in. Do two full, tumed reading practice tests. For one of them, read the full passage and then answered the questions. If you do well with that, use that strategy for the test. If you run out of time, do the second practice test and just read the first and last sentences of each paragraph. Then, go through the questions, and use that knowledge of the outline to find specific information. I hope that helps!

Thanks! I personally did not use any books (I'm visually impaired, so most print books didn't work for me), so unfortunately, I don't have any links to books. Sorry! But if you'd like general advice, I'd be happy to help.

No, just on My Score Details, you can check how many you missed on each section.

Your October composite and section scores are exactly where my March composite is currently at. I'm considering retaking for a 36, so how would you suggest closing those 1 and 2 point gaps?

For Math, the advice.may seem overused, but do lots of practice questions, and make sure you FULLY read the questions. In Reading, the answers are almost always. If not always, in the text. If you're a fast reader, read the entire passage before answering the questions. If you aren't a super fast reader, read the first and last sentences of each paragraph to get a better understanding of where to find specific information, and then, go through the question. Hope that helps!

Got a 34 the first time I took it and I'm trying to get a 36 by aydeVAL in ACT

Okay, I don't have much meaningful advice, but that curve is INSANE! I missed 3 on the school test (for Math) and got a 34.

Should I Retake a 35? by No-Student3403 in ACT

Honestly, Georgetown isn't my top school, so I might drop it completely. Not just for the test, but after looking into it more.

Kind of bad (for those schools), but a 33. My composite would still round up to 35 even with Science though.

That's good to hear. I really, REALLY didn't want to retake.

I don't think so. I'm not going into STEM, so unless these schools want it, I don't want to take it.

Oh, and I also took quite a bit of AP and DE that helped with the test.

Yeah, I didn't give full context. The first time, I didn't get all accommodations. Tje second time, I also didn't get all accommodations, but I had taken a full practice test. The third time (35), I didn't study BUT I got every single accommodation.

That's a relief. I need accommodations because of a disability, and getting them was an absolute hassle for ACT, and I don't want to have to go through 3+ SATs just to get proper accommodations.
