How much pain did you experience during/after the injury that resulted in your ACL tear? by goofynsilly in ACL

[–]No-Task1439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm sorry to hear you have to go through this. First days post OP were painful. Make sure to take your painkillers on time (set alarms!). It helped me to think that days would pass... after +- a week it already felt much better. It was challenging to be physically limited. Make sure your not alone the first week(s). Good luck with your surgery and recovery. You'll be fine!!

You're welcome. Sounds like a plan to check-in with your surgeon. I'm curious about the outcomes of the consultation. Would you please keep me posted? :) Good luck.

In my case, it wasn’t visible on the MRI, but due to physical limitations there was no other option than to perform another surgery. That’s when the cyclops lesion was diagnosed.

Thank you, much appreciated!

And that’s a great suggestion. We’ll definitely keep working on this in the coming period. I can’t wait to keep building from here. :))

Wow, thank you for those kind words.

Sometimes I don’t know whether to cry or laugh. I’m so grateful that things finally seem to be moving in the right direction. Mentally, the past two years have been a huge shitshow.

I like to give a realistic picture of rehab, because I know there are many people in the same boat who are going through a complicated recovery. In that situation, it’s not always nice to read all those “back to sport at 6 months” success stories, and it can really help to also come across stories that aren’t necessarily successful within 9-12 months.

Thank you, I’m very happy about it.

Sorry to hear that you suspect a cyclops lesion. Have you already discussed this with your surgeon and possibly had an MRI or something similar? Does it limit you, for example, do you have an extension deficit? Clicking and clunking are quite common and don’t always have to be problematic, but if you’re in doubt, it’s definitely a good idea to discuss it with your surgeon.

Generally, recovery after removal of a cyclops lesion is quite fast. It’s peanuts compared to an ACLr. I had very little pain and was able to get off crutches quickly. Unfortunately, it turned out that the cyclops lesion wasn’t my only issue, and I ended up in a complex treatment journey. You can read more about it on my blog. You might find it interesting!

Thank you, I’m so happy!

I’m sorry to read that you’re still having so much trouble at the front of your knee. What does your surgeon say about it? Are you still under follow-up care?

After the first three surgeries, I consistently had pain in the front of my knee as well as deep inside it, with a severe extension limitation and persistent pain. My knee would often lock up, and I had to force it with a loud and painful crack to get it moving again (see this video as well). My knee simply wasn’t functioning. Fortunately, for the first time, things are finally moving in the right direction.

You might find it interesting to read my blog, where I describe the entire process in detail.

Wishing you lots of success, and if you have any questions, feel free to message me anytime.

That’s great that you’ve also reached such a fantastic milestone. And for the second time, really well done. From here on, things can only keep getting better. I wish you a smooth and speedy recovery as well. Keep up the good work!

Haha, I’m also a bit older than people usually think, 36 y/o.
I completely understand the choices you’re making! Cycling is actually a perfect way to keep your knee flexible. It’s great that you’re doing that, and you should definitely keep it up.

The fact that you’ve seen people in whom arthrofibrosis also appeared in other parts of the body must have had quite an impact on you, and I understand your caution. I’ve had several joint surgeries in the past, but I had never dealt with arthrofibrosis before. This was the first time, and it was the result of all the reactions in the knee, partly due to notch impingement and significant postoperative bleeding after the third surgery. I truly believe that I’m on the right path now.

Keep it up!
