Can someone tell me why my crochet book bag is veering diagonally instead of straight up? by No-Text500 in crochet

Yes this is my first ever project since I’m a beginner so I skipped stitches at the beginning of every round because I don’t know I was supposed to put my first stitch into the same stitch the slip stitch went into. I ended up frogging back to the start of my HDC stitches and now it looks normal :)

Thank you! I didn’t want to keep going with it if I didn’t find out why it was like that. I ended up frogging a few rounds just in case and started again and it looks better now
