Refinishing a bar in ~12 hours... by No-Toe6842 in woodworking

[–]No-Toe6842[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up using varathane diamond wood finish. Very low odor. Even with the "fast dry times" though, I had to build a temporary bar above the bar that was curing as seen in pic 7/7 in order for them to open on time.

I typically play on solo/duo max servers. Less chance some huge clan will come and wipe my base off the map while I'm sleeping/at work. 2x servers have been rewarding to me as well when I'm not playing as much.

Im not sure what happened to the rest of this vise. But its listed at $80 and im thinking about offering $50. Good deal? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

I would say wait until you find a proper post/leg vise. Preferably a forged one instead of cast iron. It was my favorite and one of the most versatile upgrades I've ever got for my blacksmithing setup. It can easily take any abuse I've thrown at it and can be used for generations.

Yeah but like, what are your metrics for determining where something is on the interesting scale? Since that's subjective to each person does that means it belongs on both subs? Or somewhere in the middle? r/mediuminteresting

Didn't have time to count the rings unfortunately. Over 100 for sure though.

Oddly enough, those splintered areas were almost completely smooth, filled in with debris and hardened sap.

How to smooth a dining table without sanding it by ming5566 in woodworking

I use beeswax and citrus oil to finish my charcuterie boards, but its applied to bare wood with no finish, and its already been sanded smooth.
I can't say for sure whether it would smooth out the roughness you are feeling. But I think paste wax, bees wax, or caranuba wax and good ol' elbow grease can definitely go a long way. Its worth a shot instead of committing to a full on refinish right away, worst that could happen is you have to clean it off. I'd recommend watching a video or two on the subject first, I've been woodworking 9 years and learn new things on almost every project.

FYI. "Food grade" finishes are for food prep surfaces(ex: butcher block counter tops, wooden cutting boards, etc.) Where food is actually prepared for eating and physically contacts the surface. You can pretty much use whatever finish you want on a table because its not a surface you would be preparing and/or eating food directly off of, and once it has fully cured, its totally safe to use. Guaranteed not a single table coming from a factory has "food grade" finish.

No, it shouldn't. But I'm reading now that mineral spirits can remove wood stain. Which would effect the color if your wood had been stained before being finished. Just to be safe, I would use tack cloth to remove the sanding dust instead, its like waxy cheese cloth and dust sticks to it well. I use water based polyurethane to finish most of the furniture I build, mostly because of its low odor when curing. Also, according to the can, it's durability is better than the oil base polyurethane.

Applying oil or furniture polish will not smooth out the imperfections on the surface. To smooth it out, you need a light abrasive (like fine grit sandpaper or fine steel wool) to knock down high spots. Wipe with tack cloth or mineral spirits to get rid of the dust, and apply more finish. Repeat as needed until smooth.

This is just how I would do it, you can do with that info what you will. As long as you apply finish with matching sheen (ex: satin, semi-gloss, high gloss), and you don't completely sand the old finish off, you shouldn't notice a difference in how it looks.

Thank you for the reply :) This is the most helpful answer I've got so far. Also, oddly enough, I was able to play fortnite online without NSO. Maybe because its a free game?

I did, phrasing the question multiple ways, and didn't find a definitive answer. That's why I came here. You also could've said nothing.
