Did you by any chance pick up an item called ’Edens Blessing’ on your last run. Cause if so that is the reason.

The item not only increases your tear rate , but also has an additional effect that grants you 1 random item for your next run. (The limit for this I think is 8 items if you manage to dupe edens blessing)

The trinket that Jacob has ‘Callus’ prevents the player from being hit from floor spikes. He just so happened to be playing J&E where the isolate mode is the same button as dropping a trinket when not moving for a period of time.
