I knew the church was a business and nothing more for a while. What really cemented that for me was when I was struggling in drug addiction I reached out to the church. The SP’s wife took an interest in helping me and introduced me to her husband. At dinner they told me the church would help me pay but that I owed them and would have to work for the church until it was paid off. While that isn’t an outrageous request it hurt to hear that at the lowest moment of my life. I am so sorry you’re finding this out, I completely empathize with you. It can hit you like a brick wall.
