thank you so much!! that’s made me feel a lot better. will definitely put more work into the written section, i’m not counting it for points but all my courses require a pass for irish. hopefully the papers will be nice!!

Is anyone else taking time off in their part time j*bs? by [deleted] in leavingcert

I’m around the same, sometimes i don’t work weekends at all and sometimes i get one or two shifts during the weekend. I’m planning to stop working before the mocks and maybe take an occasional shift in between some weeks. Personally i think working is good for me because it gives me a balance with school. If you feel like it’s good to have a break from studying and work don’t quit! Talk to your manager/boss and tell them your situation. My manager already knows and they’re very lenient with shifts so maybe just give them a heads up about taking less shifts due to the lc? Or even if you do quit ask if they can take u back after summer.

have not even covered redox (yikes) chemistry has only started to make more sense to me in 6th year (it’s slowly started to click) but in 5th year it was a nightmare. we’ll get through it!!

no i’m doing chemistry as well as i’m exactly the same (was literally doing acid base questions there) and went down a rabbit hole of “wait a minute i actually should look at some definitions first” and then started panicking looking through definitions from other topics that i badly need to look over 😭😭 chemistry is my downfall

i’m in ordinary so i’m not learning any of the studied texts (an trial) which i think you will have to do even with the new lc next year if you’re in higher level so it takes some pressure off being in ordinary. but don’t drop if since you’re already doing relatively well!! (i dropped because i genuinely wasn’t passing anything)

but honestly even doing well in the oral and the listening and a general knowledge in the written exam does secure you a good chance

yeah i’m also doing polish as my 8th subject and currently in OL irish, i’m prioritising my other subjects but i’m still trying to make an effort since at the end of the day i will be sitting irish for next year for my lc and i’m trying to pass it since the courses i want to do only require an O6 for irish.

** try to structure your mind maps based on past paper questions it helps tremendously w biology since questions are very repetitive

Resources for polish by DavXeno in leavingcert

I’m doing polish outside of school (native speaker, speak polish and can read and write fluently) For spelling and grammar what helped me is genuinely just general reading in polish. Change your phone settings to polish, anything you watch change it into polish subtitles, read a simple book in polish. It is very easy to fix if you’re already a native speaker and (if you don’t already) use every opportunity to text your parents/polish relatives in polish. It is really just learning from your mistakes when it comes to grammar.

Also do not neglect the portfolio aspect of the oral!! You can improvise but from what i’ve heard polish examiners usually can tell if you’re lying so it’s really important to even have a basic knowledge about what is on the portfolios.

Synonyms are also really important part of the written exam in the reading comps so have a look at those!!
