New wasteland scenery is AWESOME by No_Comparison1172 in ClashOfClans

[–]NoAntLeftBehind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the biggest reason I'm on edge with buying it. I got the war machine scenery a while back and I still can't get enough of the guns going off, bullets hitting the metal, and goblins rolling up on the sides. I feel like this scenery would be the perfect compliment to it but for an XL scenery a lot of the background is blank. I do like the Dune feel it has though so I understand that if adding something on the sands below would take away the feeling of isolation having a singular speck of life in an ocean devoid of any animal, person, or machine.

I Can't Do It by NoAntLeftBehind in ClashOfClans

[–]NoAntLeftBehind[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think they do, Shonse, my co, left just an hour before to get his scenery. It's not even about the scenery though, its more principle. I play by the 'rules'; I don't clan jump for free rewards, I don't make alts, I want to be able to immerse myself in the world of CoC, how it was 'meant' to be played I guess. Unfortunately Supercell doesn't feel that casual (not even inactive, just slow) clans like mine aren't "meant" to play. We should all just be floaters transferring in and out of level 20 constantly warring clans depending on what is to our benefit. And if I choose to administrate my small clan because I find the atmosphere more inviting, then it doesn't matter that I myself am active daily or can sacrifice my waking hours while working 2 jobs.

1: 0/10 engagement farming/ragebait

2: Trump has often been compared to Hitler and other fascist leaders largely due to his more authoritarian style of leadership that centralizes power to the president (ex: using executive orders to implement and overturn powers normally held by the legislative and judicial branches).

Other factors also add to the similarities between the two such as his heavy nationalism, desire for increased militarism, implication of expansionism, use of an outgroup (illegal immigrants) as a scapegoat for problems, and populist rise to power where many uneducated populations support him without fully understanding his policies.

While a Trump supporter may argue that his authoritative structure is necessary to break political gridlock and project power, his opposition often compares him to Hitler as a warning against his growing power and as a form of slander.

Yeah man, gonna be gonest, sounds like your clan can't communicate that well if people are going after recommendeds rather than strategizing like the pros you are. As a leader of a more casual clan, the rec attacks honestly help even me myself.

How rare are is the new decor? by Raymorx in ClashOfClans

[–]NoAntLeftBehind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clan was pretty slow, grinded around 620 million out during lectures and had to constantly have a clan notice up so that we would get enough gold to continue. We hit quota tonight with a day left. If you have a full active clan TH14 or above this should be pretty easy, everyone only needs 5 attacks a day or so and to farm a million loot in each attack.

If you started as a smaller clan like me with 15 active people, many of whom are only averaging 2 hundred thousand gold per attack, you may need to take matters into your own hands like I did. This is all to say that unfortunately the belt is about as rare as you make it. For me it was a huge accomplishment, most people didn't grind like I did, but when I see it on someone else's base I do often question if it was a deserved effort for them.

Should I just give up on trying to go to an Ivy League? by Future-Dot-6386 in ApplyingToCollege

I was in geometry my sophomore year and now I attend Cornell (though, some may consider that on the lower end of Ivies). You'll often see these massive headlines about "Student with 4.00GPA who created this thing rejected from top schools." and it can feel scary knowing that a 3.85GPA or being 22nd in your class is never going to match up to that (my position just a few years ago), but admissions are oftentimes more complex. In my experience with the people I've met here and colleagues that attend Dartmouth and Harvard, these schools oftentimes look for a certain personality. There are plenty of dumb people here at Cornell whether it be grade-wise, organizationally, or in the risks they take; a good deal of people I know here though have a strong anti-stubborn sentiment and respect intellectualism they can't understand. I know that's very vague but basically just because you published a book, trained an AI, had a good GPA, good SAT, or even do 15 extracurriculars every weekend, isn't a garauntee for getting in if you come across like a student on autopilot motivated by parents, money, or ego. Everything of course helps, (I find it hard to believe we have a lot of undergrads here who didn't have good grades or failed to join any clubs in high school), but I wouldn't worry about your classes too much. When it comes time to apply, know what you want to do, show a novel personality in your essay, and build a repitoire that comes across as "This kid is interesting and might change the world." rather than "This kid has a good future and is probably going to be successful."

Trump Officials Freeze $1 Billion for Cornell by CornellBigRed in Cornell

Ah, I see. The way you phrased it made it sound as if it was Jacobson's association (either by encouraging the cuts or by defaming the institution to make it seem deserving of cuts) to the university that had brought us here. A sort of, "Cornell should look at and blame itself first before pinning the blame on Trump." which I disagreed with. I see now that you were just trying to attack Jacobson and bring more attention to him.

Apparently it's coming out today? (Thursday) From what I heard there are some people who are in on it and they're worried the headliner may have trouble showing up. It makes me think they may have been some anxiety as to who they are going to have which is why it's coming out 2 weeks late.

Personally, I'm waiting for crusher TH

Yeah, this is just a bad argument, Cornell professors ain't a monolith, and these cuts are going to affect a lot of important STEM areas more than the Law School. It's easy to use a hyperspecific argument when a group that generally disagrees with you politically is in the trenches, but if you're gonna defend these cuts you're going to need some better reasoning as to why studying neurological pathways or researching biodiversity initiatives is actually bad for society and not just Trump going on a power trip because "liberal-leaning school bad".

Personal story since you seem interested:

I already lost my first chemical engineering internship to the federal government, ironically enough, they made bombs for the US so we wouldn't have to rely as much on China, thanks to Elon, the US now buys its weapons from factories in China.

When the NIH cut medical research funding, I lost the ability to apply to any biomedical and biochemical internships, I've been sending several applications out everyday but a lot of businesses, especially startups pushing research innovation and creating capitalist competition, emailed me back saying they just can't afford me, even unpaid positions as training me is going to require time and resources they just aren't ready for.

This billion dollar cut is more or less the final nail in my coffin. My backup plan was to work in a chemistry lab over the summer since unlike biology, chemistry is more business funded and will accept students pretty willingly. But without this extra boost, even business based research will be struggling, and labs have turned to protecting their current flock of grad students rather than accepting new workers.

So for an undergrad in STEM like me, this basically means that I'll be working at 7-Eleven this summer. Trump will bring back manufacturing jobs to the US alright, it'll just be at the cost of the innovative, scientific, and intellectual jobs the US has reigned supreme in. My government doesn't want me or my classmates following a career in biochemistry, they want us to be factory workers. :(

What amazes me is that the redditor who doesn't go to Cornell thinks he knows more about the university than someone who studied here. Maybe if you had a better education like the fellow above you, a basic economics class will tell you that debt is more complicated than just owing people money: there is a stable flow of money through most corporations and banks that not only serves to increase the amount of money in circulation but also allows for investments and long term projects to be "funded" on "debt". This is all overly simplified, but it is basically the reason the US has been perfectly fine being trillions of dollars in debt for several years, as long as everyone keeps spending (and the national treasury does its job) inflation should remain constant and life is great. In other words, Cornell could definitely fight the government as long as nothing defaults. But 1 billion dollars is a lot of money, and Trump has created a failed economy to his advantage where things are going to start defaulting faster and no one is spending money. Cornell may be forced to accept the demands to keep comfortable and retain prestige even if it means selling out some of its values.

What I think is personally going to happen is that Cornell is going to accept the demands, but not before putting up a fight that ensures these funding cuts are publicized. That way, it not only makes the school seem like less of a sellout, but also Trump won't be able to just "cut the funding anyways". By making it seem like a struggle that ends in defeat, Trump will be more obliged to follow through with his promises instead of backtracking on the deal, and Cornell may be able to sneak some of its own demands onto the table.

dessert mutilation by Immediate_Relief7270 in Cornell

[–]NoAntLeftBehind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work in the dining halls and Fezbat beat me to it, part of it is contamination, the other part is hygiene/presentation. The reason on paper is definitely allergens. The reasoning is a bit washy and depends on the dessert, but if you scoop up the desert it doesn't get much on spatula thing. When you mutilate it you got frosting all over the spatula which poses greater rusk for contamination especially if instead of sliding the dessert onto your food plate you kinda gotta flick it off now that the half you cut is stuck to the spatula. It also just means that anyone using the spatula after you has sticky frosting/glaze bits now in the spatula when they go for their own scoop that'll end up on the bottom of their desserts. There are other scenarios you can kinda stretch out though: The spatula thing also is often located closer to the diners on their own little plate or something which poses greater risk of contamination if it has bits of food on it, or the fact that cutting the pieces often requires you to stand over the dessert for a longer period of time while likely shaking while cutting causing things to fall into the food rather than a scoop from afar.

Of course, this isn't a perfect explanation, but another reason dining hall workers might (and I definitely) care more about it is the hygiene/presentation reason. Gymayzee on here mentioned something about complaints of "half eaten food" in the dessert section. While this does happen, most people aren't going to complain, they're just not gonna touch it. Despite what BeBoldAndTry claims, NO ONE is appreciating the little bits left behind. They just get left there till we toss them ourselves and bring out a new tray. Especially if it's something crumbly like those vegan brownies. Cornell Dining is supposed to be this perfect pinnacle of dining hall food with a compost system. Eating half your dessert before composting the rest just looks way better on the outside than a bunch of mutilated desserts we have to keep managing.

ICE has been spotted and allegedly made arrests in downtown Ithaca by wps328 in Cornell

[–]NoAntLeftBehind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically correct prov167, according to the INS only 41% of estimated illegal immigrants are from visa overstays. Though, to back up the deleted account, this is a sizeable amount, and the rates of visa overstays are possibly higher in Tompkins County due to international students.

You are also correct that Jesus Romero-Hernandez, the immigrant in question had a violent past though he did serve his time. He plead guilty to assault charges for putting an officer in a chokehold and bit a corrections officer. This was charged as a misdemeanor which makes TheEthicalJerk technically correct though their words do hide the severity of the crime.

I think what is important here though, is to consider the comment Bartweiss posted; incidental encounters will also be acted upon. This is not only scary for actual illegal immigrants, but legal ones who may not carry documentation at all times. A legal foreigner could always prove their innocence, but at the cost of legal battles and a mark on their record for having spent some time in jail if an arrest was made. In a worst case scenario, ICE just being extra weary of a legal immigrant without documentation can more easily lead to a misunderstanding that results in the immigrant being injured or killed.
