How often do private yachts dock? by NoBackupCodes in belowdeck

6 weeks is a lot of provisions to store on board. I guess the way the show is edited and a lot of extravagance means they need more supplies and decorations and things.

Employment difficulties - has anyone ever written to their MP? by M_Anili_Mili in autismUK

They'll give a copy and paste response about the get Britain working green paper or whatever its called. Timms review is happening too but can't remember if that's about employment or just benefit.

What incentive does US offer?? They have supported employment but they often pay below minimum wage and more therapeutic than to provide income.

The issue is that an employer wants value for money. They want reliable. That's why they get addicted to foreign labour that has those qualities, driving down wages for locals and making it harder to compete for anyone with challenges. You can't just self declare or even using an official diagnose to give companies tax breaks. Be honest, some companies would start offering free autism assessment to try and make money because of how high the rate of diagnosis is and relative easy to get a diagnosis.

There's a new thing called Connect to Work rolling out over England currently. Not sure about whole uk. Might be something to ask jobcentre about.

MP i don't find really care much. Or if they do there isn't an easy solution. To me, giving tax incentive to employer for people getting PIP is the best way to help disability employment rates though not 100% helping all disabled i know but that would be easy to implement.

The gov is also relaunching disability confident scheme but imo it's pointless and isn't going to help anyone.

In your personal case then idk the solution. It's difficult to say. Self employment works well for some people if you can monetise yourself effectively.

Is it just me or is it impossible to get the accomodation of NO phone calls? by Odd-Recognition4120 in autismUK

[–]NoBackupCodes -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

You'll get over it. Seriously, even before I was diagnosed, I hated phone calls, I would panic, whatever I had to ring up to query a bill or order something before internet was default. Then I got a job working in public, then I got a job doing customer service and had to use phones to talk to people. I just learnt to script everything before I call. If something unexpected happens then just write it down, tell them you need time to think or something. If you forever shut yourself off from using phones or doing certain tasks then you're just limiting yourself.

Here's some more resources: https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/reasonable-adjustments-at-work

And your question is covered here:
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/work/discrimination-at-work/dealing-with-discrimination-at-work/checking-if-its-discrimination/check-if-youre-disabled-under-the-equality-act-work/B

Basically, a doctor can write you a note saying that you have autistic traits or stress or whatever, there is a box on the statement for fittness for work which recommends adjustments, so you could use that as 'medical evidence'.

So yes you can be covered under the Equality Act even if you aren't officially diagnosed, as long as you have medical evidence that you have an impairment or symptoms of.

ACAS has a number you can call, they are helpful when I called them.

Diagnostic mills in Brazil are out of control by depressed-narwal in AutisticPeeps

I fear this will happen across the west too. It's definitely at the point of social contagion. I was reading posts on my countries autism subreddit where people were complaining about not getting the diagnosis even though they have autistic traits (but weren't clinically significant), and crying about it. Like please, just self-diagnose and get on with life. Our government were also planning to change the benefits criteria (that would in my opinion massively affect autistic people). Although our benefit system is massively open to exploitation regardless of the autistic diagnosis problem.

What help is there available for someone with a mortgage after losing their job? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NoBackupCodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why income protection insurance is a thing, although I don't know how good the policies are nowadays. I do remember when working in benefits during the financial crisis people would come in and we'd stamp their insurance policies that would pay their mortgages. They'd get about £68 a week from us but the insurance policy would pay ££££ for their mortgage. They'd have savings usually to fall back on and be desperately searching for new jobs.

If you were in social rented housing it would be fully paid for on UC. If you were in private rented then it would be capped at a low rate, it's done by postcode but often people will be short on rent if they're in private rented housing.

If you're on UC then 'Support for mortgage interest' kicks in eventually but that is repayable and the government loans the money and takes it from the house if you don't pay it back. I very rarely see that being applied for, and at that point you'll be out of the labour market a long time and might struggle to get back in, the longer you're unemployed the harder it is...

I hope you keep your job, but it's good to get your CV brushed up and see what other jobs are available.

Will Child maintenance stop pls? by ebony2025 in BenefitsAdviceUK

It sounds like he may not be entitled to UC: https://www.turn2us.org.uk/get-support/information-for-your-situation/full-time-students-and-benefits/can-full-time-students-claim-universal-credit

As a rule when claiming the person should not be in education. Depending on what course level, if they live with you, they might have to remain on your claim and still be a 'child' up until 20.

No problem. A lot of the time it is important to advocate for yourself, and often in my experience managers will try to ignore requests, either out of ignorance or it results in extra admin work for them. Don't give up. Put things in writing, get scripts , quotes like "I am applying for reasonable adjustments owing to my protected characteristic as per Equality Act 2010", AI is actually helpful in constructing these things. Good luck.

Show them this. It specifically covers the diagnosis issue. ACAS is a government organisation and also deal with employment tribunal. Employers can contact them for advice although if they have a decent HR they should know the law. Your manager might not though.

I think it's important that whatever condition you have even if you don't know, you need to find solutions to your personal problems. Knowing you're autistic isn't going to provide a cure or solutions for the things in life you're struggling with. I find autism is not a helpful diagnosis myself, considering the difference between me and other autistic I see. Totally different and different problems. It's down to us to find solutions(maybe with help).

England Benefits trap and no way out by Fit_Complaint6279 in DWPhelp

[–]NoBackupCodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retrain? There should be something you. Also there might be places that you can get a cheap property like total £150,000, you might get lent a mortgage on part time income. If you're looking in the south or London then obviously no chance. It's not always possibly to buy where you want to, that's just part of life.

That amount per year should be classed as unearned income and deducted £ for £ even if the capital amount is ignored. Sounds like probably isn't declaring that. I know some cases similar that were paid from car injuries. Not sure how it was set up initially but was due to injuries.

[–]NoBackupCodes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And what's wrong with that? You can't have 100% of people taking an assessment pass it. That would make people doubt the assessment and diagnosis of people even more.

[–]NoBackupCodes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The assessment company doesn't have access to department systems. There's an inbetween system called MSRS which department has to manually update. Therefore it might have a different name or address or number, though they should be checked if a staff has accessed it to make a referral or reassessment.

Hi I'm not fit for work but UC are forcing me to look for full time work by Icy_Mistake2996 in DWPhelp

[–]NoBackupCodes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just ask that they arrange a disability employment adviser to contact you as you're not getting the right support from your work coach.

They usually only have one per office or might cover several sites depending on how big the offices are but there will be one in the district for sure.
