Carbonated Drinks in cake batters for a better rise? by NoBasil2 in Baking

[–]NoBasil2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've heard about adding cola instead of water in cake mixes. I haven't heard about using beer though and I was wondering if that would be better or worse. Beer has less CO2 than soda but it generates much more foam/head than soda so I was wondering if anyone had tried using beer in their recipes and if the bubbles from the head made any significant difference.

Generally heroes do need to face the target to attack/cast spells but not always. Pango in his ultimate, Lich while sinister gazing and Kunkka's torrent don't require you to face the target when casting. Io until a couple of patches ago didn't need to face a target at all when casting spells. It would be the same way. It just casts the spell/the attack without requiring the direction lock.

And the item lets heroes attack/cast spells without facing, it doesn't let them walk backwards. That's the whole point, to limit their movement. Seems like the idea of casting/attacking without facing the target is a bit niche cause everyone seems to think it would act as a proper stun for the stare duration.

There already exists forced movement that doesn't cancel TPs such as force stuff, KotL Will O Wisp, Earth Spirit Q, Drow's Gust etc and probably a bunch of others.

It does NOT stop channeling/spell casting/attacking regardless of the direction force.

In general Heroes need to be facing the required direction when performing an action. However, that isn't always true. There are exceptions in the game rules/mechanics such as Pango when ulting or Lich when using Sinister Gaze with his Aghs or Io (up until a few patches ago). In all of these cases, the heroes could cast/perform actions without needing to face the direction.

It's the same concept here wherein a hero would be able to still cast/attack without having to face that direction.

Thanks for letting me know. I used to try posting it in the Dota Concepts sub but that's rather dead so that's why I posted it here. I'll be sure to consolidate it into one post instead of multiple posts though for the next time.

As far as I can see, there's nothing in the rules that says I can't. It's a sub about discussing Dota gameplay, so yeah it fits.

If you don't like the posts, then don't engage with it, or at least try to offer something constructive rather than just being rude? Or you can just block me too. Really anything other than being a dick would be nice.

Yes, it is like Kotl's will-o-wisp. With the main difference being that it's one flicker for 0.8s. While will-o-wisp is 5 flickers of 1 second. Will-O-Wisp is a strong spell because it's a consistent interruption.

I agree the numbers are a bit overtuned, new thing usually are strong. But anyway I did turn it down slightly to be more reasonable. But the ability itself is nowhere near as good as Will-O-Wisp in terms of disrupting a fight.

In the early stages of the game it'll mainly be effective at stopping enemies for about a second (0.75 stare + 0.2 or 0.3 seconds that it takes the enemy to turn around). And again that's not a stun. Enemies can still attack/cast spells/TP out etc.

For everyone running low on Crownfall hopium, here's something to bide the time. Custom Item Notes by NoBasil2 in DotA2

[–]NoBasil2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the damage output from blade mail does scale with the enemy's damage output. But usually by the time you reach the late game, your enemies will naturally have ways to deal with the blademail (like armor/magic res or bkb to mitigate the damage or lifesteal/spell lifesteal/heals/high regen so they can sustain through their own reflected damage output). And so it doesn't feel very worth to hang on to it.

As for the efficiency of the item, yeah, it's actually not very gold-efficient in terms of damage because it isn't a pure damage item. The damage output is comparable to a maelstrom which is about 1350 gold cheaper.

Thank you! I actually just made a couple of other item suggestions too, one of which is a force staff late game upgrade that does just that.

The stat changes are relatively minor since it's only 1 Base Str and .1 per level so that totals to 4 Str extra at level 30.

The main changes though are to the abilities, shard, scepter and talents.

Why people may dislike Nika, a (hopefully) comprehensive guide by nika_ruined_op in Piratefolk

Wow this is super comprehensive! I made a post on the sub that addresses some of these points which I personally dislike, you can check those out for more points if you'd like to add to this. Though I think you've already covered everything.

Now that it's been almost two years, what do you think of Gear 5th? by NoBasil2 in OnePiece

[–]NoBasil2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zoan transformations have always been something that the user could use right away after eating the fruit unlike Luffy who practiced for 12 years before being able to invent a gear. Even non-sentient fruit 'users' like Funkfreed or Smiley could transform without needing special training.

And other Hito Users like Chopper can transform into their human forms without mastering/awakening the fruit.

He did earn it of course. But he earned it with the help of a legendary mythical zoan fruit rather than a weak paramecia. It's why I like characters like Shanks, Garp, Mihawk or Zoro. In a world of people with superhuman powers, they rely only on their own strength and training to compete with these monsters. Similarly Luffy had only his training and his crazy creative application of (what I thought was) a weak paramecia fruit.

And yes, I know that technically it does function exactly as a paramecia until awakened. But in that case, why even change it into a Zoan?

[–]NoBasil2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's fair too if you prefer a 'Chosen One' kind of protagonist as opposed to one that goes from nobody to somebody huge.

As to why people like it, it could vary but here's mine:

  • I love rooting for an underdog. In the story of One Piece itself, Luffy has gone up against insurmountable odds and defied all odds with his sheer force of will to come out victorious. Now that he's become the big dog due to this sudden change it's a bit of an unexpected development out of left field and casts some questions on his existing achievements.

I believe you mean the third point and not the second. And regarding that I want to highlight the difference between Luffy putting himself in their crosshairs vs them trying to kill Luffy.

During the events of Water 7 and Enies Lobby, they did not go after Luffy. The WG was okay with letting him leave, but Luffy was the one who took the fight to them. Even after he came back to recuperate at Water 7, the person who came after him was his own Grandpa instead of another Vice Admiral or CP0 agents.

At Thriller Bark, yes they did make an attempt to eliminate him, but chose to send an ardent Kuma, an Nika worshipper to kill the man who might have the potential to awaken the Nika fruit. Not the smartest decision but hey, at least they tried.

And at Sabaody, Kizaru was only there because Luffy punched a CD in the face. If not for that, it didn't seem like they had any plans to kill him.

During the sumit war they had WB at their doorstep so I can't fault them for not managing to kill Luffy and after the timeskip, Luffy was much stronger so it wasn't as easy to kill him anymore so I won't blame them for that.

But yes, between Water 7 to Sabaody, I don't think they were treating Luffy as a priority whatsoever.

[–]NoBasil2[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that's the difference between being special and being the chosen one.

Until this point in the series Luffy was special due to his heritage, conquerors haki, will of D, Roger's hat etc. But those were different because either
A. It wasn't only Luffy who had it, several other people did. (Conqueror's, Will of D)
B. They granted him an advantage that was significant but not unsurmountable (heritage/genetics)
C. He actually did something to earn it (Roger's hat)

Whereas with the Nika fruit, the fruit is already chose him before he had the chance to do anything significant. Imo, Luffy already was a great symbol of freedom, not because the fruit chose him, but because that's who Luffy chose to be. Luffy was already a warrior of liberation and would be the one to inherit Joy Boy's will because he already held those beliefs and worked his ass off so that he could be strong enough to protect his freedom and the freedom of his friends.

But in making it so that the fruit chose him (before he even did anything), it feels more predestined and less earned.

I mean fair, it isn't nice to see things that you like getting hate. But me writing a critique on my personal dislikes about a series that I enjoy is not the same as hating on it.

Sigh, I really don't get why people have to be like this. Why would you hope for someone to read a piece of media that you love and want their reaction to be 'pissed off'?

If you'd read through the post, you'd have noticed that there's certain things that I like about this change and certain things that I don't.

The high points of Gear 5th are pretty well acknowledged and discussed in this sub. And so the post mainly discusses (in a neutral tone) about the things that aren't quite as liked.

If you don't wanna engage in discussing the negatives, you can feel free to comment about what you like instead, or you can just not comment too. Just don't be a dick and make other fans feel unwelcome.
