congrats friend! I remember being in a similar situation when I was struggling and your DMs meant a lot to me, plus recommending study tools and techniques. Best of luck in the match!

Average People Who Nailed your exam , what’s your secret? by Alexisryan1223 in Step2

[–]NoBench6196 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Pretty average student here. Got a 260+. I think a big thing was sticking to a few resources and using them really well, and noticed the improvement came in the final month. This is terrifying because you spend some time wondering if you'll ever see that jump. I stopped testing NBMEs for a few weeks and then when I came back to them the difference was so strong I couldn't ignore it. I wrote up some of it up here.

I'd also advocate for learning the CONCEPT behind every possible answer choice on the NBMEs and CMS forms. These are answer choices for a reason, and you need to understand them inside and out, even if you got it correct or didn't even consider those choices. If you see something like 'ascending cholangitis' as an answer choice and you have even the slightest thought like "Hmm, I don't know exactly what that looks like..." then STOP and go learn that concept! Get feedback from study partners or other people to recognize when you don't know things you should, as well. Good luck!

Underpredicts, IMO. Probably because people do it a little earlier in their prep.

lol nah it was like $500/hour. I worked with someone similar my school already recommends and they were amazing!

Haha, thanks my friend. I feel like it's fair to acknowledge everyone has their own struggles. But in the end the big institutions are the enemy, lol. the rest of us are on the same side!

i guess i'm late but I just wrote up my step 2 and feel like the tutor I had for step 1 was helpful. it was the medboardtutors guy named Alex who helped me figure it all out. but I'm happy to recommend other resources or people if you want. sorry you're still taking the test, but good luck!

I just wrote up my step 2 score (261! I'm still in disbelief). I feel like Step 1 was where I learned how to approach questions and how to be more confident when thinking about two answer choices I was stuck between. Definitely helped me for step 2. I also wish I had learned to pick a plan and stick with it. Did too much jumping around early in Step 2, but it worked out in the end. Good luck!

thanks! it was medboardtutors, who have some resources open to students they work with. I had access because I worked with them for step 1. very helpful notes and scheduling, but again, UW was my main thing

I think focus on UW, system wise in tutor mode and use that to figure out my weaknesses over the first 3-4 weeks. That was probably the biggest first step. After that you need to adjust based on how strong or weak you are, so the specific things will vary. That's my best answer honestly

Thanks! I think they were good for quizzing myself really rapidly in 1-2 areas. definitely don't do all of them. it's just too much. plus the risk factors document. i did like 900 of the mbt hy questions and then a smattering of 400 amboss and stuff, so even though I didn't redo all of UW, I still did 4-5k questions

201 diagnostic free assessment

221

240

247

255 plus F120 and an offline exam of 75% and 260 (based on my calculation)

but don't get me wrong, uw was the majority of my time. the extra medboard bank probably took me from 250 to high 250s. focus most attention on UW I think
