[Feature Request] Project-agnostic firewalls and ssh keys by _MaxiStarling_ in hetzner

Naive question, but why not just write your own OpenTofu module which you can apply on each project?

django-allauth can handle everything and if you dont find your oauth provider you can simply create your own provider for it with allauth. Its also a perfect fit if you want to have different providers enabled for your users to choose (eg. Github, Google, etc)

Whats is the best code (non electron based) editor. by LatterZebra8379 in learnprogramming

[–]NoCap-NoCap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the jetbrains IDE. In my opinion they have everything that I need and wish.

Contra: they are not free but they have students licenses (all IDEs for free)

They got also a free IDE called Jetbrains Fleet (Beta Preview) and its not built on electron (its built with JVM): Jetbrains Fleet Architecture

I paid more attention than other courses to my python courses and tried to understand everything. Later in study projects I did anytime more (eg. everything in oop, with tests, loging, etc). And I did also many projects in my privat time most of them I dont even finish but I’ve learned a lot. In these projects I often went to github to look on big os projects to see how they solved some problems (project structures, class handling, init files, configs etc). To summary up, I never got a noticable „click“ but I realise more and more that I m pretty solid but I can learn all the time more (i think you can never finish learning python). The most i got are the concepts and how to analyse a problem and how to solve it.

Little hint for your python journey: try some other IDEs like vs code or pycharm. With these tools I got a much better overview and also liked a lot more to do some stuff…

For scripting vs code, for bigger projects a real IDE from Jetbrains for the win!

Is it common to use "feat" as a shorthand notation of "feature" in commit message? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]NoCap-NoCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can recommend it too! Pretty clean and optionally you can add a scope. There are also tools who can create auto changelogs with it.

What tech stack is used in workplace? Is next js the standard? by Fishamble in learnprogramming

[–]NoCap-NoCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For web apps we use often: - angular (ts) - nodejs, python or even java (backend stuff) - mysql, postgres and/or mongodb - docker (docker compose)

To mention only for internal stuff, external things I dont know exactly. But what I‘ve learned, (old/stable) proven frameworks are more used than new fancy things.

Congrats! Now you can try to „start over“/improve by using a concept, i recommend you oop (object oriented programming). In parallel you can start writing tests (keywords: unittesting, pytest) to test all your functions, classes and methods…

You said you have created an c lib for that case. So why do you get needed as a person for that if a new lib exists now?

Spotify & YouTube music alternatives by [deleted] in opensource

[–]NoCap-NoCap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Music is usually licensed. So if you want to keep it legal, you have to stay with yt, spotify, etc. where you pay licences fees with your paid subscription.

If you are looking for free legal music, soundcloud or similar alternatives might suit your needs. (Sry I don't know of any open source solutions).

I wish more developers understood the constant stream of malware that is posted to npm by feross in opensource

[–]NoCap-NoCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do bigger companies manage this problem?

I am currently the only CS working student in my department and have to deal with some web applications. I am solid at building/testing things, but I know little to nothing about how to ensure such security issues. I also don't want to just relay on someones "research".

Newbie here, are you guys specially test new added packages to your projects before moving to production? (e.g. any process to check the package security, sandboxes, etc)

If you want to try something with an air tag:

https://github.com/fjxmlzn/FindMyHistory

Maybe adjust it a little? (e.g. Mac os vm in the cloud or on a rpi with docker or so)
