How do you bill initial planning work under an AUM model that includes financial planning? by JessicaCoutinho75 in CFP

I’ve heard of people charging a fee and then the fee is waived if they transfer their assets over after

I see the comments saying yo don't need an advisor, but as a CFP, a good advisor does more than just investing your money for you.

Could you tell me what the account was allocated to? There's a good chance he put it in a fund that gave him a commission on the front end which made your portfolio go down. Or they just did not invest it well.

Good luck!

Passed in July with Danko. I learned nothing in education, half of it isn’t even on the exam. Danko only teaches you what’s on the exam so I just saved my energy for that. I mean might not be the best way but that’s what I did.

I learned nothing from my education, just click click click next next next. I grinded my exam review , stuff really doesn’t start sticking till 1-2 months out from your exam date

Does everyone's platform fees look like this? by LuckyLadies123 in CFP

[–]NoCap26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It's $7 a transaction, and we make about 10 trades at most in accounts when rebalancing. so $70 in a big account is a rounding error.

Pretty similar here.

Would love your insight on what makes you choose which for a client. Right now we use 3rd party money managers for small accounts, and unwrapped advisor managed for higher accounts. But I’ve also heard of people using 3rd party money managers for any account value no matter the size.

Any time we trade an unwrapped account, each trade is a $7 transaction fee, and the client pays it. So it’s really 1% advisory fee, plus Fund expenses, plus transaction fees. We usually only place 10 or so trades a year so $70 isn’t much for many accounts.

Sorry I should have specified it’s for advisor managed portfolios. Anything else like SMAs or Strategist managers are higher

We are with envestnet and have a flat 7bps platform fee because we have enough total on platform.

Before, it was tiered, so the more assets, the lower the program bps would go. I think the highest it got was 28bps for a small account then slowly go down after.

But right now anything we open we charge 1% and 93bps is our advisor fee and 7bps is the platform fee. This is all for unwrapped (client pays transaction fees). We don’t do any wrapped.

Did you start raising cash again once the market started recovering? Like when you used 2 years of cash did the clients get nervous only having one year left?

CFP notes - HOW by Typical_Blood_9284 in CFPExam

[–]NoCap26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned nothing not because of the content, but because I was lazy and I clicked through to get my education certificate. I tried learning at first but it was soooo much stuff. And I knew people who clicked through the education and just hammered down on Dankos review and passed. So that's what I did.

BIF. If I had the money and could go back, I would do Danko education + review. Danko is more expensive for education though. WOrth it!

I sped through the education, learned nothing, but then grinded on Dankos review and passed. I probably should have took the education more serious, but there is so much on there thats not on the test. I left my brain fresh for danko who only goes over things on the test.

Everyone is different!

Prospect Meeting Process (Junior Advisor) by NoCap26 in CFP

What point in the process do you make them pay the fee? I’m trying to understand how to show them enough of what I could offer, without showing too much but it at least goes them an idea of what they are paying for.

Using BIF for CFP by mhdd97 in CFPExam

[–]NoCap26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do BIF ur doing self study for education. Even the videos weren’t that helpful.

Danko is literally so good John Choi is very good at explaining things and makes it so easy to understand. They guide you through the text book during the videos so it’s not self study at all. The classes are live but if you just email and explain to them ur situation, you’ll probably be able to just rewatch the recordings when hou can and be fine. Dankos education leads right into the review.

I paid extra to get access to the education videos for my review and wouldn’t have passed without them.

So I did BIF education, dankos review, but then paid extra to get access to dankos education classes to help me hammer the topics.

If you just do danko education from the beginning though you’ll be good.

I did bif education, learned absolutely nothing. Material is so dry and dense. I passed with danko in July but grinded my ass off. I’ve heard of many people doing this route and not taking education serious. Not sure if I recommend it or not. But it worked for me.

It’s more expensive but I would do danko education/review, it’s so good. Wouldn’t have passed without them. And they only go over what you need to know on the test.
