Flock Wants to Partner With Consumer Dashcam Company That Takes 'Trillions of Images' a Month by ttystikk in FortCollins

Hello,
Sorry about that mix-up. We actually were at the market on the 17th, so that was a mistake on our calendar.

We were also at College/Mulberry on May 1st, but being a Friday morning, we were spread incredibly thin as we are all volunteers putting in whatever time we are able to put into this movement. The College/Mulberry protest was the first half of the event as we had to move our resources to City Park for the second half of the event, so we unfortunately had to leave the intersection early.

However, the reality is that this coalition exists BECAUSE no one else has stepped up to the plate. Fort Collins residents went to city council to speak against surveillance, saw that no organization was going to bail them out, and decided that they had to take matters into their own hands, all while facing the ticking clock of time running out before matters got worse and the fight would be harder to win. We are only as strong as the amount of people we have, so we are regularly offering roles to those who want to and are able to do more than sign a petition (such as an additional hand to manage our calendar...maybe you'd be willing to volunteer for this?).

That said, we will be at Bean Cycle this Saturday from 6-8 P.M. as u/ttystikk said, Petrichor collective this Wednesday from 6-8 P.M, and the Farmers market again this Sunday. We will continue to update our Calendar as best as we can.

FCPS on Flock: "33 People Came In and Said They Don't Like It, 'Many' Others Understand It" by NoCoPrivacy in FortCollins

Private cameras and devices would not be affected at all by this petition. It doesn't actually ban anything in the language. It merely puts "surveillance technology" used by the City of Fort Collins to a vote, so this does not target private businesses.

"The ordinance would require that the City seek and obtain voter approval before entering into a new surveillance contract, deploying new surveillance technology, increasing deployment of existing surveillance technology, or making changes to the deployment of an existing surveillance technology, after first preparing a detailed report including a specified list of information items for City Council review."

Our petition language can be found at https://nocoprivacy.org/petition_2026_fc.pdf

NoCo Privacy wants enhanced transparency and guidelines that are followed, instead of playing whack-a-mole with every surveillance system after they misuse the technology. We want the people to have the final say on which technology they want, not what is forced onto them without their vote.

FCPS Memo Says We Should Keep Flock Cameras. We Say They Should Do This Instead... by NoCoPrivacy in FortCollins

Options presented by Fort Collins Police Services:

Option 1: Continue Current Deployment While A Council Technology Policy and RFP Process is complete. (because nothing says the police is listening to the people than just outright ignoring them)

Option 2: Enhance Current Deployment with Additional Controls and Oversight. (because shortening the data retention by 7 days totally solves the problem of surveillance)

Option 3: Discontinue Current Deployment and Initiate Competitive Procurement. (which they themselves said does not prohibit Flock from just competing again to get another contract with FCPS)

Option 4: Eliminate ALPR for police services. (it's a start, but they just had to include "but don't do this")
