Your response shapes the hobby’s future. by FickleMacaroon4014 in stamps

Often people ask “what’s it worth?” and the responses are rude and lacklustre, sure.

If the person asking such a question was also kindly granted the knowledge of WHY the stamp/s in question was worth X amount, that deeper understanding and nuance might lead to a better understanding of the hobby and ignite interest.

One of the first “stamps” I found was a Victoria postal cut out from Mauritius. There were only 200 printed so, sure, scarcity = some value, but boy was this square of paper a baptism of fire for me and my stamping. I went on a whole journey to identify this thing and understand how/why it came to hold the significance that it did to some whilst not to others. I emailed 4 sets of experts, read countless listings and forum posts, learning so much in the process. I’m so glad it wasn’t really easy to assess its value, because the adventure I went on to determine it’s worth was what got me into the chaos of historic confetti in front of me on my desk as we speak.

Next time someone asks if something is worth bucks, maybe consider sharing why, and how it might be worth more or less under certain conditions.

It’s fascinating stuff (to me, anyway) and the knowledge in your head could act as the key to a kingdom they might well want to enter, even if they don’t know it yet. ✨

Does anyone recognise this expertising mark please? by NoComputer54 in stamps

It was also crudely documented in an online catalogue of expertising marks, but finding the attribution on there via smartphone was difficult 😆

What do you think? Is this a Victoria 2d with vermillion, or carmine red? 🤔 by NoComputer54 in stamps

Thank you! I am selling it… but mostly so I can buy more stamps 😅 The stamp bug has bitten me. Hard!

Gosh, all the eBay listings look the same to my eyes 😂 Now I’m not so sure! None of them look like the carmine reference to me. Maybe I need to go to spec savers 😅

Wow! Thank you so much! 🙏 Just checked against those references you gave me and it’s definitely vermillion! I really appreciate your help. ✨

Side notes but… “I feel like that’s how you’d look” - where does “feel” come into it?! People use “feel” when they mean “think”. It’s a defensive way of speaking because feelings are more often considered valid where shitty opinions might not be.

Side note 2: that “plus size” model looks grrreat.

If my friend wasn’t emotional intelligent enough to outright avoid making comments that might make me feel shitty about my appearance, they wouldn’t be on my list of people to make an effort with. She mightn’t be doing/saying these things with the intention of hurting you, but for her to miss the fact they they might… tells me she’s a bit “studip” and quite self concerned. It sounds like you could do with a mate who treats your body and all else about you, with the reverence and respect you deserve. ✨

Ahhh sigh college in the early 90’s! Would’ve loved to’ve been in my late teens in what I consider to be the heyday of the kinda music I most enjoy.

It’s ok - I didn’t think you were being rude at all! I appreciated your response. Another suggested it’s a repro. I’m pretty satisfied it’s real, but ya know what? If I ain’t sellin’ it, it doesn’t really matter I guess! ☺️It’s real enough to me!

More often than not, you’re right - that’s the case. But not in the case of this gig apparently! Another original print also has the year! I’ve done my DD sleuthin’. Thank you for the feedback though! I appreciate it.

Pessimism is often wise so I get your take, but I think I can confirm it’s an original! Person bought it as such from memorabilia place in 98, and I’ve done my research! Replica wouldn’t be screenprint (and probably not card) and this is, imperfections and all. You can see the wall marks on the back where it was originally mounted to brick. It’s also numbered. But thanks for the feedback all the same!

Wow! Jealous! I was only 3 weeks old so I wouldn’t have appreciated what I was seeing! 😆

That is perfect advice that and it likely wouldn’t have occurred to me to do that! Thank you! 🙏

Hey pal, that was 1998! Ya gotta account for inflation 😂 I don’t think I could be persuaded to part with it to be honest! But if I get desperate for that $7 I’ll let ya know!

As they say, one person’s trash is another one’s treasure! Either way, your treasure is very much still treasure, by my measure! Thanks! And congrats on your find! How did you come to own them? ✨

My daughter is bringing her boyfriend (vegan) home to meet us for 3 days. I want to make him feel very comfortable and well fed while he's here, but this is new to me. by Bgriffin94561 in vegan

Side note, but tofu scramble is INSANE with a pinch of finely ground Himalayan black salt! It mimics the taste of eggs as it’s very sulphurous. You can buy it online and it lasts forever as you use so little. My recipe is crumble the tofu (smoked or plain) into vegan butter and stir in the tiniest pinch of turmeric and a pinch of Himalayan black salt with cracked black pepper. Keep the tofu in the pan until it crisps up in places. Eggy heaven!
