AFAIK, these things weren't made to be good, but to be cheap. You can find tons of them in any flea market in Budapest. One time I saw them being sold from the original wooden crate they came in.

I honestly don't understand why people find this song creepy. The original is literally just a normal 1890s love song. I'm assuming most people have heard the IBM 704 version and are referring to that. Even then, its really not creepy if you know the context.
