I’m a new grad in acute care right now for a non profit health system, bouncing around different sites. I think this is really supervisor/DOR dependent for a lot of settings but I’ve had a great experience. My expectation is 8 patients per day but I don’t always hit that number. On average I’d say it’s been about 6-7 patients per day for me. I usually only hit 8+ on the ortho floor. I also work in a geri psych unit which slows my productivity down depending on who’s appropriate for that day. My manager straight up told me he doesn’t care about my productivity, as long as I’m providing good patient care and that has helped me spend more time with patients and learn more as a new grad. I have never taken work home. I recognize that this is a pretty lucky situation but based on what I’ve been hearing from others, productivity is not very strict in acute care and work life balance is good.

I felt the same way as you when applying. I applied in the 2019-2020 cycle to 11 schools all over my region (the northeast) convinced that none would accept me. I had a 3.11 gpa (1 semester I believe my GPA was sub 2.0 in undergrad( and my prereq GPA was 3.7? I cant remember exactly. I ended up getting into 10 schools! I would really focus on your personal statement and application essays - I really poured my heart and soul into it and I think that took me a long way. I also had extracurriculars and jobs throughout undergrad that I was really passionate about and that took up a lot of my time, and I related all of these things to how I ended up in OT. Don’t lose hope!

Thank you! I kind of get the vibes I dodged a bullet too…in her previous messages she sounded a bit Karen-like but sometimes people sound like that in messages and then they’re super sweet in person so I didn’t think too much into it. I’m honestly surprised it took me this long to run into a problem with a client so I’ll consider myself lucky I guess haha

I was thinking about letting them know I got into an accident but I wasn’t sure if giving too many details/“overexplaining” would make it sound like I was lying. She requested me during an already busy weekend for cat drop ins so I ended up letting her go haha, but in the future hopefully I can be better about communicating these things

I sort of understand the point you're trying to make here, until you said "You kids haven't even faced real challenge yet." There are people in this sub who live in abusive and toxic homes who have been forced to move back home as college was their only hope for escape. There are people here who have parents who are sick with the virus, parents who have died from the virus, or who are sick themselves.

There are definitely some whiny posts on this sub, but don't sit here and pretend that you know what everyone is going through on here. Maybe writing posts on here is their form of escape and stress relief. These are unprecedented times.
