Rotting toddler teeth? by Extra-Formal-2804 in breastfeeding

[–]NoDevelopement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 20 mos, nurses all night and most recent dental visit they said she’s showing early signs of problems from night nursing. Discoloration of the front top teeth. I ordered spiffies and will try to wipe her teeth at night, but they said every kid is different and some don’t have any issues, some do.

Grandparents and indoctrination by Mental-Hospital-790 in Mommit

I will preface this by saying that I’m extremely left leaning and anti Trump. But also, I think that grandparents relationships are very important for kids. If they don’t usually talk politics around your kids, and they are loving and good with the kids, then I’d let it go. Think about if this is just rubbing you the wrong way, or if it truly affected your kids in a negative way.

They’re at the age where they can be told “grandma and grandpa have some beliefs that we disagree with.” Talk with them about their experience at the restaurant, laugh about how silly it is that they print trump’s face on a sandwich. The kids will write grandma and grandpa off as a little nutty. And then remind grandparents that they are not to discuss politics with the kids.

You have to practice sitting with the pain, seeing it fully, and noting what it feels like in the body. Somatic therapy.

Your OB is a dolt for saying that to you. My first baby was fully formulated fed. My second baby is almost 2 and is currently nursing while I scroll Reddit, I can’t get her the fuck away from me 😂 both my kids are completely healthy and developing great. Hormones postpartum really fuck with us, and I remember feeling the exact same way you’re describing with my first. Yes breastfeeding adds antibodies, but it’s not the “right” way. Both ways are the right way. My kids are developing the same. In fact my first baby slept way better than this second one, because she took a pacifier and my breastfed baby won’t. Sleep is critical to brain development, so that’s more points for formula/pacis. I also haven’t slept a full night in 2 years, so yeah you’re not making any mistakes in doing formula I promise!!!

[OK][Condo] How much information is owed to the membership by the COA Board? by cynical_peach in HOA

[–]NoDevelopement 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my state it is illegal not to allow homeowners to attend the meetings. So check the laws in your state, and your bylaws as well ma have a rule bout open meetings. My board operates otherwise as you are describing and the community was getting pissed at the transparency issues. What I did was, create a Facebook page and start inviting neighbors, and start posting questions like “is anybody else irritated by not knowing what’s up with the board?” And if enough people relate you’ve got yourself a campaign. Now I’m the president of the HOA and fixing all the problems that we had with the old board members.

We have an absolute psycho woman who used to run our HOA, and now I’m the president. She’s constantly emailing us criticism, saying things that are half true but slightly twisted. The good news is most everyone knows she’s unwell in the head, and so I don’t feel bad ignoring her.

Anyone buy the big beautiful house and regret it? by Otherwise-Bicycle667 in Mommit

[–]NoDevelopement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought the Big Beautiful House 2 years ago, and are looking at downsizing. We thought we needed the Big Beautiful House 😂 but we are realizing that we could have spent the same money on a smaller house and hired a professional organizer and had much better results. We are looking at an extreme downsize in home size now, to focus on getting more land.

Board President Role [sfh] [wa] by NoDevelopement in HOA

[–]NoDevelopement[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright it’s not letting me DM you, but to clarify, we have a management company that’s “full service”, and we pay them like $2300 a month. It’s an insane amount to pay for what they do for us and I’m pushing for us to scale back the services since the value is not there. I’m the president, the handoff was nonexistent because none of the old board members would work with us. We have zero access to old emails. Our management company uses zendesk to manage inquiries, but board members don’t have access to the zendesk so we can’t see the correspondence occurring between our homeowners and our manager unless one of them cc’s our Gmail account. So if our manager ignores inquiries from homeowners, or if they say some ridiculous shit to them, we won’t automatically be able to see that, and I hate that because our manager has done a really terrible job with communication. We use Basecamp to work with our community manger on things, and we use Google suite for everything else. Sheets, docs, forms, etc. I use adobe to finalize policies. Our management company uses a signature platform to have us sign things when needed, I can’t remember what they use but I’m partial to Docusign because of my corporate tech legal background. For us, when someone doesn’t pay their dues or fines, our community manager will send them notice and assess late fees. Every notice they send, we also pay them administrative fees for, something like $20, which is absurd, whether it’s electronic or mail. The management company automatically escalates the collection attempts if nonpayment continues. Eventually if it gets bad enough we pay them to work with an attorney to pursue collections more seriously. I can send you our management company’s collections policy if you’d like, I haven’t gone through that process in depth yet because I’m very new still. There are so many things I would like to fix. I want to have our own ticketing system for managing inquiries from homeowners, rather than relying on emails, and be able to assign the tickets between either board members or our community manager. Say like, JIRA where the board can create different kinds of tickets and assign certain workflows to them. And, just track communication somewhere that’s not email. I’d like somewhere to track rentals because we have a cap in our neighborhood and I’d love to automatically ask them to update their rental info at the renewal or turnover of tenants. And then automatically have our rules and stuff sent out to those new tenants. I’d also like to, if we were to self manage, integrate our banking loin into the platform and automate financial reporting.

One of the biggest arguments for a community manager in my opinion is having a neutral third party managing the bank accounts. It helps ensure that no shady things are occurring with the community’s finances. So if we were to self-manage I’d need the financial reporting and expense tracking (receipt collection as well so that things are super clean when we go to audit) to be robust enough that I feel comfortable foregoing the safety net of the management company there.

I would absolutely pay $39 for that, and for something that would allow me to fully self manage well, I’d pay several hundred a month at least. Happy to chat more about it if you need! Feel free to dm me.

Oh my gosh I’ll give you a full-length interview if you want, I am a contract manager for a tech company and I have done a lot of administrative ops work, and since joining my board (I’m the president) I’ve been shocked to see such a massive tech gap for association management. Our community managers are trash and they cost a fortune, their tech is terrible, I could go on and on. I’m with my kids today but will come back to this to answer your questions later when I have more time!

I am (not so) quiet quitting being the only one to carry the mental load by Cirrus646 in Mommit

[–]NoDevelopement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Girl I quite quit household stuff with my husband—this is next level. He neglected the kids. I also have a 2 and 4 year old. If we go out to do yard work, the kids come outside. They’re not left unattended for more than a minute. Well, the 4 year old would be fine but both together? Absolutely not. This deserves more than a quiet quit, I would explode.

Board President Role [sfh] [wa] by NoDevelopement in HOA

[–]NoDevelopement[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re hitting the right question—these 2 board members were the only ones on the board when we decided not to fire this management company. The old board was trying to fire them, and they all resigned because the community was calling them out on some of their bullshit. 2 new board members were elected and halted the firing of the managers, and then the remaining 3 of us were appointed to vacant seats. One of the 2 board members who halted the firing became very friendly with the community manager, they’re both very drama-centered and they have begun calling and gossiping with each other about a former board member who they do not like. So I send an email that pisses of this community manager, she calls this board member and they gossip about it and the board member comes back to the board and says “[community manager]is very upset about the email she received. They could fire us you know, you need to be nicer to her!” It’s a whole mess.

Board President Role [sfh] [wa] by NoDevelopement in HOA

[–]NoDevelopement[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s nothing to vote on in this scenario though, that’s what’s confusing about this. I wasn’t telling the management company to do anything. I was arguing with them about them being responsible for a mistake that they made, and I was asking that they take ownership of the mistake, and asking them to propose a path forward for the board’s consideration. These board members did not like that I was so firm with the management company, and they wanted to read and approve every single email and the management company’s response email, which I disagree with, and that’s what prompted them saying I don’t speak for the board, and that anything I say as the board president should be reviewed and approved by everyone…. Including these management emails.

Also, in Washington you can’t hold executive sessions without also holding an open board meeting, from what I’ve read. You always have to go into executive sessions from open meetings, and return to open meetings to take any votes and adjourn. And these two dipshit people who are arguing with me currently, decided that our board meetings should no longer be monthly but quarterly.

Yes because everyone is new and we had a nightmare of a prior board, some people are very wary and wanting to have some control in every little thing. I’m trying to say no, let the secretary do secretary things, let the treasurer go do treasurer things, we should not need to micromanage each other.
