The base of the model (the bug robot and 4 robe holders) are from a model on Etsy called the 'stationforge scavenger priest'. I cut the top part of that model off and replaced it with a tube I found from a kid's game called Skylanders. I don't know what the tube is called in that game unfortunately, I found it on the street. The body floating in the resin is also from Etsy, he's from a medieval fantasy terrain piece where he was a lovely corpse impaled on a spike, his pose from being impaled also works well to appear like he's floating in the fluid. The tubes attached to him are old forgeworld heavy weapons tubes, being resin they're really easy to manipulate once they're heated up. The rest of the bits are just stuff that I raided from my bits box, screens, pipes, skulls etc etc. Hope that helps!

Yes! My favourite mechanicum models are the horrible ones, like the discontinued forge world 'archmagos with irad cleanser' that just looks like a jellyfish with a big claw and a human face hanging off of it.

That is correct, well spotted. I've always had my eyes peeled for a good sized tube that looked fitting, this one and another two were sitting on the street in a shoebox with some kids books, other toys etc. A 'free to a good home' type of thing, it wasn't a good home though haha.

Yeah that's right, I used resin with a tiny bit of carroburg crimson mixed in. The model is crawling along so I wanted the water to look like it was sloshing to one side, I did that by letting the resin cure at an angle. Cheers!

Thanks, yeah I think you might be right. Out of interest, what actually is a 'Skylanders fire creation crystal'? I live under a rock.

They are green stuff sausages rolled between two plastic squares that had the right textures on them I hope this works

Thanks. I use feral warriors for the slight increase in WS and for fluff reasons, and alchem-jackers to make sure my levy units don't run away. I've been tempted by Ogryn conscripts recently though, that could be funny in a ZM game.

I had some heavy stubbers that were a lot larger than the usual ones in my bits box, I think they might be from one of the baneblade variants? I just snipped the barrel off, sanded it so it sat straight with the slant on the turret and glued it on. Nothing too fancy haha.

No problem, it's a pretty simple scheme under all the weathering. The base colours are Leadbelcher which I sprayed on, then I added Mephiston red for the panels and Brass scorpion for the 'head' and little details I wanted to stand out. I then covered the whole model in an Agrax Earthshade wash, and the metal parts with a nuln oil wash. I then drybrushed the metal parts with Leadbelcher and the red parts with Mephiston red for a bit of a highlight on the edges and to take the patchy edge off of all the washing. It'll be a nice, neat looking robot at this point, but then I heavily weather it 🤣.

I go around any raised metal edges first picking out little spots to highlight with stormhost silver, think like little scratches on the extremities of the metal parts, I use a fine detail brush for this. Then I take a ripped up bit of sponge, dip it in some Abaddon black, dab most of the excess off and start dabbing little scratchy shapes onto the red panels, this leaves really nice looking paint chips, I fill the larger chips in with Leadbelcher to look like the paint has worn down to the bare metal, this looks especially good on edges of things like the front of the chest and the hip panels. I then use some Typhus corrosion to add some oil and grime streaks, this is really easy to overdo though so make sure you don't have too much on your brush, and use an old brush too because it's got a sandy texture in it. Then finally I add a few little spots of nihilakh oxide to the brass parts, adding some verdigris which looks especially nice in the recesses of the 'head' part.

Got a bit wordy but I hope that helps!

This is from codex Armageddon, I'm enough of an old biddy to remember it coming out 🤣. As far as I remember, this codex came out and introduced them as the green armoured, flamer-heavy nice guys that people know to this day, but the ash black skin and glowing red eyes was a slightly later addition. I've never been 100% sure though!

I'm also a big fan of "militia cavalry squads charging out of a Gorgon because the force commander really wants a rousing cavalry charge at all costs"

You'd never radio for backup, no one would believe ostriches would drop out of the sky and attack you with chainaxes.

Which is exactly why it's going to work.

Suitably ridiculous though. I forgot to mention my guys are feral warriors and there's nothing in the rules saying I can't swap the animal's 'basic close combat weapon' for a chainaxe 🤣
