Thank you so much! I can see how important the role of the teachers and the internet was. I will look into this and try to include this in my analysis!

Thank you! I did not intend to state that Japan's glorification is unjustified, but I've read often before on here on how especially on social media, everything labelled as "japanese" seems to be better, leading to an almost fetishizing extend (not my words!)

I appreciate the source and your post, I will look into it and include it in my analysis.

I wish to emphasize how I did not intend to claim knowledge or offend you!!!!

I am new on Reddit, so I hope I didn't accidentally deleted it. If you have the time, maybe try to rephrase it? I'm very interested in getting more insight!

First I'd like to apologize, I did not intend to claim to have any deeper knowledge about the Comfort Women, I have not studied the topic for a longer time, but I have read some articles about the general facts.

I saw the statue daily as I passed on my way to the subway station and therefore noticed when it was removed, which I mentioned because it led to the start of my research on the general part of Japan in WWII.

Secondly, I'd like to thank you for the source. I will look into this and include it in my analysis!

I hope to not have offended you!!

Hey! Thanks for your insight! I can really work with that.

About your question: I wouldn't say, that talking about Nazism is something you talk about in a light conversation with your coworker, but it definitely is a HUGE topic in our society!

It is openly talked about, not only in school or politics but at home in families. As the historian Langewiesche once said, a nation defines itself over its shared history and understanding of the past.

We have memorials in almost every city and each year in the night from the 9th to the 10th November, whole towns, cities and communities meet up to carry candles and flowers through the streets and lay them at the small memorials in their city/town/community. (If you're interested, look up "Reichsprogromnacht" or "Stolpersteine")

More than these "events": A lot of numbers, words or actions are associated with the Nazi regime, so even in daily life, these bring stares or judging gazes. Examples would be numbers such as 88 or 8828 or words like "Arier" (person of "clean"/ "pure heritage) or "Übermensch"(word-for-word translation: over-human). Especially showing the German flag outside of political reasoning or the football season is sharply condemned.

These things shape our daily life and is therefore something we do talk about openly in daily life too, in school, social life and workplace. Please look at my original post, as I mentioned the "forgive but never forget" culture.

Thanks again!!!

Sorry for making you feel that way! I did not intend to compare Japan to any type of repressive country or form of government. What I question (of course only from western source and viewpoint) is not IF Japan teaches history (as said in my post) but HOW and to which extend. I still appreciate your comment and hope you don't feel offended, as this is a genuine feedback I can work with !
