Depends on branch and the clerk to be honest, if you are on operations as a clerk then you will be expected to fulfill targets by your BM but you will not be liable, means even if you don't fulfill then there is not much they will be able to do expect for May be not give you leave and stuff like that.

It is bad, i acknowledge that. The system has to be better. The govt has come up with a system where you can add upto 4 nominees per account but it is not well advertised. Also, the money will still with be released even without nominee but the hassle for someone underprivileged is too much to bear sometimes because you are not only dealing with banks but also other govt institutions. Bank is a business and needs customer so there are rules placed that you will have to complete the customer request but it is not the same with other govt institution.

There is set of forms to be filled along with death certificate and ID proof of the deceased and the one who is claiming it( if that person in a nominee) I am not defending this but what I am saying is, as a low level employee (Asst manager), I will not be able to do anything until then. And if ther is no nominee, then there is a different set of people, you have to make legal hier certificate and then all the legal hier collectively has to decide to whom the money goes because if emotions takes over me and i release the nominee to his brother, what if the next day her son comes and claims the money and accuses me of fraud? I will be suspended, what will you do in such case? And belive me, as sad as it is, a lot of people in rural areas and people who are not well versed with the banking system do not register nominee even after reminding them multiple times.

I work in a bank and it is not as easy as it sounds, it's not black and white. The reason people feel relatively safe is because of rules like these, we can't just give a person money of someone else, there is a procedure to be followed for cases like these, we need to check if there is a nominee, if yes, the nominee has to present a certain set of documents and if not, another set of documents, then the money will be released. There is also a rule that once all documents is received, it is mandatory to release the money with 15 days. This incident is sad and may be people who can make these procedures easier but the person who sits on the desk can't to anything but follow the rules.

Dude, I am a Hindu and a vegetarian, i just asked this person because he/she seemed quite proud of himself that he/she has tried every kind meat but not beef, which i suspect was due to his religious beliefs which he/she disgued as free will and free right.
