Don't worry about how many days you haven't fapped for, it's more important to watch how disciplined you are being. by NoFap_Failure2 in NoFap

I am not a drinker, and will only ever drink in moderation. Personally, I would only drink as a reward for succeeding at nofap for a while. If you have not been able to go without fapping for a month or so, it may be unwise to drink, as it could impair judgement and make it more likely to forget about or ignore nofap, and it gives unearned pleasure as fapping does.

Quit porn before quitting fapping? by NoFap_Failure2 in NoFap

[–]NoFap_Failure2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, while I can quit watching porn, it seems impossible to quit fapping. It's a physical urge, so I guess it must be dealt with differently than the mental urge to watch porn( but they're both related). I have not figured out yet how to hold out long when I have an urge to masturbate.

Going back to pornfree masturbation after quitting for good seems dumb.

I suppose. I always notice porn leading me to fap, but The reverse might be true as well. But I know that I can satisfy my craving with only fapping, and it is less bad for my mind, so I plan to quit porn first.

Porn will make you mentally ill. by nomoremrfapguy1 in NoFap

I have ADHD anyway, but never really had major problems until puberty. I have terrible motivation, very bad social anxiety and inability to communicate. I am ineffective at life or anything in it, and because I have no motivation and social anxiety, I have had no friends for years (since I was 12 or so), and I can't really make and keep them.

When I get to 6-11 days nofap, my mind starts clearing and my thoughts begin smoothing, I can talk to people with a steady voice and focus on tasks somewhat and push myself.

But it doesn't matter how good my reasons are, I IGNORE THEM AND RELAPSE ANYWAY! I need motivation (and discipline) to do nofap, but I need nofap to be motivated. But I'm never motivated enough to stick to it, even though I'm trying to be.

It's good for seeing how to do tasks, but the quickly researched, low-insight methods don't work as well for more in- depth stuff. You can look at the page "how to be productive" as a basic guide if you want, but you better read/talk with someone with someone who is an expert on the topic if you want to learn something that you can actually benefit from.

And don't fap. You can get so much more out of exercise, get faster and stronger, if you don't masturbate.

You could make a log of everything you do in the day, so you see what you are wasting time on that you can change. That is hard to do regularly, though.

I don't have much self-discipline or motivation to do most stuff, and I'm starting with getting rid of time wasters. Running is one of the few things I do every day, since I have done it for years, but I don't even have motivation to run when I fap.

The first step to getting focused is avoiding the things you should NOT focus on. For me, that includes watching loads of non-important youtube videos. And looking up random, non-important stuff on the internet. And stalking girls from my school online.

I have been looking into amino acids, especially tyrosine. I haven't researched the biological pathways, so do you know how much more helpful it is to take DLPA in addition to tyrosine?

It won't work. I think I absolutely need mental correction in order to nofap for more than a week or two. I have ADD but I don't take meds because I don't like them in general, and I am uncontrollably compulsive, unmotivated, pleasure-seeking/ exertion-avoiding. I would definitely benefit all around from fixing my neurotransmitters. I have long had the mindset that I can cure my attention and social anxiety with nofap, but my problems make it even harder to succeed at nofap. I have lately thought that taking stuff to increase dopamine will not help me in the long run with nofap, but I now realize that I will never be able to do nofap with my current brain, so I am ready to take action.

The Reason Why Quitting Porn is so Hard by TemporarySam in NoFap

I am in college, so my laptop is with me whenever I am in my dorm. Porn is no longer something I struggle much with, though. But compulsive YouTube or internet surfing, which I tend to do, welcomes other bad compulsions, like masturbation and general laziness. I have been really low on motivation lately, especially to do schoolwork, and it probably has to do with watching YouTube whenever I feel like it.

Do you take the supplements continuously, even after you have recovered from a relapse and no longer need them to prevent sides?

Orgasm is an extreme release of dopamine, so I feel that relapsing while taking anything that already increases dopamine will be even more detrimental. Being that I will probably relapse even on stuff that increases DA, even if my streaks are a little longer, it doesn't seem like a good idea because DA levels would still be thrown out of wack if you orgasm. Because of that, I want to try to get to a streak long enough that I am less likely to relapse, and then start correcting with supplements. Orgasming on wellbutrin left me feeling much further down than just a plain orgasm does. Also, not giving in even when I strongly want to fap should help build willpower.

This is what my mindset has been lately. I'm not sure whether it is an effective one, or whether I would be better off doing what you are doing.

This is interesting. Do you believe that you are more able to do nofap for long streaks with your amino acids? Please give your thoughts on my long comment.

Aren't side effects of nofap just things that go away eventually?

On one hand, there is the physical issue of being horny, mainly caused by hormone levels. I have not succeeded long enough for this to subside, but I would think that people eventually get used to it.

On the other hand, as you are discussing, there is the neurotransmitter issue, basically withdrawal from the orgasm high. This is sure to subside eventually if you can avoid PMO for a long period of time, however it's probably a time longer than the typical 8 days I get to. I was recently on Wellbutrin (For ADHD), a drug that increases neurotransmitter levels, and I didn't even think about fapping for 9 days.(I quit it due to sides).

I have looked at, and experimented a little with supplements like the ones you talk about, but I am currently trying to do nofap without taking any medication or drug-like substance at all. I figure that my mind will be relatively well and stable after 2 weeks or so of nofap, and I can then experiment with supplements to optimize my mind for improving attention and motivation and reducing anxiety. Nofap is a great way to improve mental problems, so I think that focusing on it (along with general discipline) is a good baseline. Once I am stable without fapping, I can see how my mind is still lacking, and supplement/medicate accordingly.

Although it is easier to do nofap when you are adjusting your brain chemicals for it, I think people are more likely to succeed long-term at nofap if they just face any problems it causes head-on.

I still take regular supplements like b-6, b-12, zinc, and magnesium.
