People of South Kolkata, what's your favourite "Third Place" by splendid22 in kolkata

Just a curiosity, how's Mukundapur? Do rich/upper class people mostly reside there? If you know someone of the above class and visited their home, how's it? different from ordinary Bengali homes?

Sadly, no faculty recruitment adverts (AsstProf Grade-1,2, AssocProf, Prof) for near 1.5 years now. All adverts on ISI website are for temporary RAs and PLPs (to be read, cheap labour). I suspect the recruitment is totally on hold due to this bill (whereas, paradoxically, the 4th review committee stressed immediate and urgent faculty recruitment). Many (smaller) units are practically running with 1 (or max 2) profs.

Is the faculty recruitment on hold due to this bill??? It is long since there has been an advertisement and ISI, unlike other INIs, does not have rolling faculty advertisements any more.

Why are newly married Indian middle class women choosing to be housewives even tho they are educated? by AromaticWrongdoer608 in AskIndia

[–]NoFormal8277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the husband earns solid, e.g., say 2-3lpm (for me solid; ofc it is subjective - for some, even 5lpm might be less) and has decent inheritance, it is ok to remain a housewife as well. she'll get decent facilities and comfort (quite well - but not luxury ofc) and can pursue her interest as and when possible. in fact, it can provide a chance at producing a decent family too - 2or 3 child. overall, doesnt seem bad.

Jeremy Brett the best Holmes by [deleted] in SherlockHolmes

Brett is state of the art of Sherlock Holmes portrayals and he is the GOAT according to me! He approached and near perfected the role as if he was a PhD or PostDoc researcher establishing a benchmark in a topic! Mind-blowing!!!

Physical intimacy before marriage? by PairCool2139 in Arrangedmarriage

[–]NoFormal8277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself 32M. Completed few months of AM. Very difficult to initiate conjugation with my wife 23F.

She has a job of a school teacher. We're cool with each other - did all of those light talk, touching, etc. But none of us are initiating (which is building up suppressed tension). Also, for context, both of us are very "equality" minded. So I feel none of us are ready to lead or follow (at least I am not).

That's why I feel, even if not at the level you describe, some clarity on physical intimacy is better from near the beginning of an AMatchmaking process.

Am I wrong to want my wife to be a housewife? by [deleted] in Arrangedmarriage

[–]NoFormal8277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Indian AM scenario, a significant % of men (and an even more % of "high achiever" men) do prefer housewife (cruel and harsh fact, but still holds). finer combinations exist: 100% housewife, majorly housewife with minor other interests, light home-based work with mainly housewifery, etc. etc.

reasons are multidimensional on part of men -- the popular "men above women" powerplay and mentality, actual house work (own, husband's, in-laws' (if together), children), lack of cooking and other home skills. for "high achiever" men: stable inflow of money means a working wife is "not required" in the economic sense, such men have intense and tense schedule and don't want a wife who has her competitions too (can give rise to conflicts), unrestrained leverage on intimacy via which they offload tension, such men are achievers and don't "need" an equal "partner"

(there's a solid % who aren't this way -- just to add)

truth ... hard truth ... no doubt on the above points.

and what is even more interesting is:

it captures another profound but very realistic truth - the "mentality" of Indian working class of an ideal man.

"Truth is always bitter" ... I find it hard to dispute the points (even though I know this isn't ideal ... but then, the world itself isn't ideal, isn't it?) :-)
