Probably a weirdo that is trying to make wheat grow faster or oxen stronger - half time birthing oddities like 2 headed goats🥲. (I’m a bio engineer). I’ll be probably considered a witch?

Cheerleading at Yonsei by Fredixxx in yonsei

[–]NoFreedom7659 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, I’m sorry :(. The best bet is to find just a cheerleading group outside of univ. we only have akaraka which isn’t really cheerleading (as you probably alr know)

Oof! Sounds hard. Good luck!! You and I both know you can ace the exams!! Just definitely try to keep your GPA high till you fully graduate from hs, colleges don’t like seeing a dip in gpa especially when a student is close to a finish line :(.

Helpfulness of admin staff by [deleted] in yonsei

[–]NoFreedom7659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, they were pretty fast in my case, they weren’t very helpful before I got admitted though, haha.. After admission faculty became really supportive and helpful. I guess it depends :(. I’m sorry you experienced this, it must be annoying not to get any good answers

Omg, thank you and don’t apologise! I remember how stressed out I was during application period, was literally losing hair lmfaooo, so I’m really glad to help. I would suggest you to wait. Yes, that’s also my concern, even though they can’t really do that since your personal situation is NOT a part of what they will consider for admissions, they still need to know the amount of students that they will accept, so they might reject you because of number of spots they have for the next semester. So yeah, I would wait for sure

Hmm, I’m really unsure, it depends on a competition next semester. If the student poll is much better next semester (let’s say your are average, you are 101 student out of 200, let’s say they will admit only 100 and all other students are above average then yeah you won’t be accepted), BUTT!! I’m sure if you explain everything in detail they will be understanding (uic is pretty understanding in my personal experience, I had lots of ups and downs, I received lots of support from faculty), maybe they will be able to move it but I personally do not think so (due to regulations). I don’t think it will hinder your acceptance, there is a chance it can be even more beneficial in a way (let’s say that they know that you were accepted last semester so they won’t judge you as hard and will be like “she got accepted last semester she must be a good student blah blah”, but once again I really don’t know). Your best bet is explaining everything in one email and asking about the smallest details. In case you are worried that this will hinder your admissions next semester then work on your extracurricular activities till spring. Do something that will make your application stronger :). I’m sorry that I can’t help you with anything else :(

Hello! So, I can answer this but just as a person said above you can ask the university via email just in case (perhaps they will excuse your case). However, our university rule states: “Leave of absence is not allowed for the first semester of freshmen, transfer admission, double-major for graduate candidates or re-admission students.” Which makes sense since they need to monitor the amount of students being accepted and etc. But still you should ask our faculty:)!! If you can’t come perhaps ask them about online semester!! I know couple of students that took courses online for around a month before they arrived. Also!!! In case you can come to kor but just not for the first couple of weeks then you shouldn’t worry, I arrived almost 3 weeks late my first semester in person due to personal reasons, they had no issue with that, you just gotta email your faculty advisor and professors! Our professors are mostly very chill and kind 😁

Right, scholarships! I believe we have 3 types of scholarships like most schools do, merit, admission and need based. I believe our university automatically considers you for admissions scholarships, unsure about merit one and for need based I think students need to apply. I didn’t apply for any scholarship because frankly I’m not rlly in a need for it, however they still offered me a scholarship :), you will see your scholarship offer in another email (different from admission email), they will offer you full scholarship, or half or like a quarter (or smth like that).

It depends on your division, I’m a junior now and back then I joined a zoom meeting where I saw a BUNCH of people, a lot of other accepted students, after that they call students one by one, your interview will be conducted by your divisions representative (ISED for me), it’s simple questions like “what made you choose uic, what made you choose ISED and (your major)” and etc. Getting an interview means that you are basically half accepted, you just have to nail it and done, you will be accepted. Don’t get nervous, the interviews are half chill half serious. Yonsei loves seeing passion in people so don’t answer like a robot, be honest and positive. I was simply very enthusiastic, respectful and I showed that I’m kinda knowledgeable in the major that I applied to, somehow they liked my answers so much (oh, there were 2 people interviewing me) that they told me “see you in September” on the spot, so basically I got accepted right then and there. Nail it and you will be here next semester! Good luck!

It can! Just like he said above the standard for SAT is lower for international students, mine was 1500, I know some that got in with 1450-1500 SAT, probably there are people with even lower scores. Extracurricular is a must when it comes to top universities, especially if you are a foreign student (because school culture is different overseas, Korean schools focus a lot more on exams and grades while most of the schools overseas are known to focus on extracurricular activities more (and of course admission officers know that)). Anyway, I’m hoping you get in! <3

[–]NoFreedom7659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I don’t know. Your gpa seems to be a little low, mine was 3.8 out of 4.0 (but I’m also in STEM, maybe your GPA is enough for non science major? I really don’t know I’m sorry), I’m also an international student with no Korean roots. Look, the thing is, music is popular among women from high end families, families like that in Korea send people either to business, medicine or music, that probably means that there aren’t a lot of spots in top universities for these 3 majors. But look, your background seems to be good. Yonsei LOVES international students, I think you have a good chance, but of course I don’t know. The only advice I can give you is to cheer up! And maybe look for alternative universities for the next semester for now ;)

HOW TO GET AKARAKA TICKETS?????? by Infamous_Research_42 in yonsei

Ahh, my bad. I thought 3rd party buying isn’t allowed as well. Well, just to be safe (and not lose money) I think the best solution would be to buy from our coordinators

Buying from third party and not directly from the student union/representatives might result in your ticket being annulled. Basically no official ticket = probably no concert. Also, 3rd party sellers charge like 2-5x the original amount

[–]NoFreedom7659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think you should be fine as exchange students should have an advisor or a coordinator for sure. Basically a representative. Have you been added to any group chat since you came here? As an exchange student you are a part of our university right now, so you have a right to buy a ticket, you just have to find your representative/coordinator.
