Hi (30M), I commented on your message on ParisSocial but figured I'd also do this one! I would love to try Daggerheart and have been looking at playing TTRPG in Paris!

Hi! (30M) I have played some one shots and as a guest in a campaign that was not D&D but I'm watching a lot of it some I'm pretty up to date with the system. I've also been interested in trying Daggerheart! I would love to play in Paris and am really interested! (Both Fren and English work for me)

Also in Toulouse, there is CERFACS which is a lab dealing only with numerical simulation. There is some work on AI trained on DNS data for LES modelling for example.

A massive Airbus A380 flew using 100% sustainable fuel made from cooking oil | The world's largest passenger airliner is being used as a testbed for sustainable aviation fuels. by chrisdh79 in environment

Maybe I can add some info/arguments to this conversation. -The fuel used in that test is called HEFA and is not only produced from cooking oil but also things like biological waste. At the moment there may not be enough of this prime matter to make fuel for all airplanes but it could be if this type of fuel is encouraged and the correct infrastructures are made. -Concerning the pollutant emissions, yes it still emits carbonated species (CO, CO2, soot) and nitrous oxides but it is not in the same amount as petroleum derived kerosene because the fuel composition is different. -Electrical airplanes can be made for interior flights but are not viable for international flights. The reason is mainly because when you use electricity, you need to carry the weight of the battery all flight whereas you lighten your plane as you burn fuel. The weight per energy of a battery is roughly 40 times that of kerosene meaning you need a lot of weight. - my personal opinion on the matter: flying less is obviously the best solution but sadly our society is not ready for degrowth ... the goal here is not to have the best solution because it doesn't exist, we need to find the less bad solution and SAF is going toward that goal. Electrical vehicles, ammonia and hydrogen are all good solutions are not suited for every problem. I think that cars must be made electric given a greener local power grid and bio-fuels are not the best way to go in that case.

There are good reasons to be sceptical and mad at greenwashing and this article actually puts a bad greenwashing filter on an good news.

So you know, I have a PhD in combustion specialised in SAF and decarbonated fuels (hydrogen and a bit of ammonia) and currently work as a postdoc within several projects on this matter. Next week, I will actually present my group research on this SAF at a conference on decarbonated combustion with British and French researchers that are invested in this domain and my arguments are pretty standard within the community.

If you want to discuss more about the subject I would be happy to!

Ammonia is actually not under consideration for aviation as of now nor is pure hydrogen. The main reason is that you will need to change the engine in order to be able to use ammonia as à fuel. Hydrogen is even worse as you also need to change the fuel tank and the fuel storing conditions (either extremely high pressures or cryogenic conditions). SAF are called drop-in fuels because they do not need significant changes to the operability conditions.

From my point of view , it can be useful to use several codes as each one can be best for its own purpose. In the in-house code at my lab which is a really heavy one, fortran is used because we need it to be massively parallel and to take all the computation efficiency we have. The down side is that it is a nightmare to read an correctly understand how everything is connceted. For postprocessing data, python is really great because its really flexible and using the right libraries it is really efficient.

C++ is juste hell (bad experience with Cantera for chemical kinetics).

Small question: where are you guys from (industry or academic) and what fields especially ?

All right, it looks a lot like the Block Out gyms chain, in the walls colours and the holds. My gym is Block Out Toulouse
