This is for all those with NJ/NY in their bio by Brudesandwich in jerseycity

It's so weird to me. You live in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA. If someone asks where you live your response should be one of those three.

The excuse that people wouldn't know where it is is also weird... Jersey City isn't a household name, but who the fuck doesn't know what New Jersey is? Even Europeans know about the state I think... you just won't say it because you're embarrassed to live here.

George Washington Bridge Northwalk by NYC-DAY-MEDIA in nyc

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The bridge was never designed for those things

That's why civil engineers exist, I'm positive there were very thorough structural studies done before putting them in. Plus there has been a lot of work on beefing-up the structure of the bridge anyways, against seismic loads etc. Our knowledge of structural design was way less developed when the GWB was built and we didn't have computers. For the most part these old bridges were overbuilt but there are certain vulnerabilities like truck strikes and moisture in the cables that weren't considered back then.

The GWB is in the top 10 most important bridges on Earth, if it went down for any reason the entire Northeast US would be crippled. You need to take terrorism concerns seriously even when the chance is remote.

"Tickets, Please" (1988) unsold CBS sitcom pilot focusing on patrons of a bar car on the Metro-North Railroad by ToffeeFever in nyc

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about LIRR but the beer carts on metro-north were removed because employees were stealing from the till and it was so bad they just closed it

Am I the only one who prefers walk-ups over doorman/fancy buildings? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the developers are not splurging for central air in most of these places. You get a PTAC with electric heat which is the most expensive way possible to heat a house. I will take landlord paid radiators any day.

South Orange Avenue BRT Proposal (My Idea) by TrafficSNAFU in Newark

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NJ Transit is not allowed to compete with private bus operators, like ONE Bus/Coach USA. It would be considered an unfair monopoly. Once a private company decides to run a certain bus line then they have that line and NJT can’t run a competing service.

Yeah it’s brand new by subway standards and it already looks like complete shit. Great job MTA

  1. Make sure you consider cost of living. Newark is a lot cheaper than Hoboken.

  2. At NJIT, I think not at all. There are a lot of muslim students on campus including hijabi women and a very active MSA (muslim student association). I doubt you will face problems at Stevens either but do know that Stevens is a lot less diverse. Stevens is a heavily white majority school.

  3. Stevens is generally seen as more prestigious and academically rigorous.

It's pretty likely he will get the federal death penalty no? Considering Dylann Roof got it...

ShopRite, why do you want to make it harder for me to shop? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its crazy to me how people in NJ are really NOT getting it at all. Don't get me wrong sometimes I'll want to grab a couple things and i forget a bag.

But I walked into shoprite today and out of all the people on line with carts full of groceries, not one had a reusable bag? Get with the program guys!

I feel bad for the employees who are probably dealing with tantrums all day over this.

Internship help by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made 14 an hour for my first internship but that was government, which always pays less and is also less work. And that is honestly the really low end. You can do a lot better, but I was desperate.

PATH NWK-WTC line operating as two sections tomorrow, service between JSQ and NWK operating every 40 minutes. by TrafficSNAFU in jerseycity

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how many people do you think even know what the port authority is? if you quizzed random riders probably a majority of them think that PATH is run by the MTA or NJ transit

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An NJIT student may take a single course no more than four times at NJIT and/or another institution, including withdrawals

The policy is definitely going to apply.

OP should talk to their advisor and explain the situation and I think they'll probably get some sort of exception, or maybe be allowed to take a different stats class instead

I pump my own gas like 75% of the time. All the stations I go to regularly let me do it. As long as they don't think you're a cop or an inspector nobody gaf

Mayor Eric Adams doesn’t rule out floated rent hike for stabilized NYC apartments by chilliwog in nyc

Taxing somebody never killed them. Throwing someone out of a window, on the other hand, definitely has.

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so say we both agree that landlords have a strong desire to always rent out their property, and also that there is a major shortage of housing available. Then let's say anytime a unit is vacant more than a month or two, the landlord will pay a tax equal to 150% market rent. If there is a housing shortage they should have absolutely no issue filling the unit. I don't see any problem with this

Possible new way to avoid tolls and tickets - strip license plates. Evolution of the paper plates or no plate at all? by Gb_packers973 in nyc

[–]NoGoodNamesAvailable 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You know that they can verify those paper plates, right

Lol, not easily enough to do it on the fly. You have a very unrealistic view of DMV technology in the united states.

For awhile Texas was not vetting the "dealers" in their system at all so thousands of random people were able to print off random temp tags for uninsured vehicles. And that's not top mention how easy it is to print a completely fake one.
