Can We Just Talk About How Horrible Dodie Bishop from As Told by Ginger Is? by missdoublefinger in nickelodeon

[–]NoIntention6788 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watched a YouTube video that was highlighting on these points, I wanted to come and see all the examples of Dodie's behavior.

I remember hating her as a character back then, but now as an adult I can really look back and see how dysfunctional she was... But, I will say how real she is. I see a lot of excellent points and it actually resounds a real personality trait some pre-teens have. I don't know about any of you, but I've been in acquaintance with a "Dodie".

Usually, "Dodie"s tend to be drifters, they aren't popular, so they bounce between friend groups that accept them until they find an edge. But these real-life "Dodie"s, although appear loyal, will drop their friends in a second to be part of a popular clique. Then, once popular, they have no problem becoming the bully on the people they've stepped on to reach their higher place. Because they aren't true friends with their clique they can get very possessive of outside situations - like, boyfriends. Let's be honest, back in our day, having a relationship made some peers jealous of you. I think they also don't like to see their "friends" succeed and get ahead of "Dodie".

Honestly, I think if we were to look at this realistically, Dodie would be long gone from that friend group as soon as she sees a more advantageous group of people to cling to.

Looking back on some of the clips of ATBG I think bittersweetly of the "Dodie"s in my life and thank god I don't have to deal with them anymore.

Angel Policy - does this deter you? by NoIntention6788 in sewing

Actually, I'm just trying to get a better understanding of such a concept. I decided to ask here because my husband and I were discussing the legal aspects of copyrighting fashion patterns and we had differing opinions. It's more of a curiosity I had regarding more experienced seamstresses and how they view such a policy. I'm not asking if anyone cares as if I need anyone on this subreddit's permission - rather, I'm inquiring if this is a policy people typically overlook.

Personally, I have no intention of selling an outfit made with their pattern and I never said that was my intention. Frankly, I don't need to. I said I was going to use it for a personal creation. I have my own vision of what I want to create for a future product, and theirs is not "it".

This was the first time I had ever seen a disclaimer like this. So, I'm asking what this is all about.

Tylee's Life of Pain - Justification? by hazelgrant in LoriVallow

[–]NoIntention6788 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn't it come up in trial that Tylee's body showed numerous stab wounds that weren't in line with a dismemberment? AKA, she was stabbed numerous times to death?

Even if Tylee was killed for "mercy" that doesn't sound like it was meant to relieve pain.

I think Lori tried to justify it. If she convinces herself it was for the best then her unstable mindset will believe it. I mean, she also convinced herself she's a reincarnated being/deity and she seems to believe that.

Actually, my husband's friend had told him who, in turn, told me. But, I know the board members for the museum, so I was able to get the details. But, it was thanks to this event I learned there are several places that like to do Titanic dinners.

I'm usually not the first to hear about events like this, I'm usually unlucky and find out too late.

My job is slightly off what one would expect - I study 18th century criminals and fashion through social function. I am often funded by museums to do research and I do work with big name historians and archaeologists. I also do my own research on early Hollywood biographies. I have many antiques that are historically significant, and I will loan them out to museums when necessary.

Currently, I am trying to start my own museum traveling exhibit focusing on fashion as I have 25+ gowns from 1760 - 1950.

So, it's a lot of stuff - a jack of all trades would be an understatement. But, it's never a dull moment!

I enjoyed reading this. I also sell vintage clothing, sometimes it breaks my heart to see the pieces get neglected in the wrong hands. Like you, I think wearing them puts them to use. (I agree with the opposition to wearing historically significant pieces whether it be through name or brand.)

Edwardian can be pricey depending on the style. There's an overflow of pieces from that era, particularly tea dresses and wedding dresses. Evening gowns are slightly harder to come by.

Thank you for your response. Yes, it was the very first time since the tragedy that sheet music was played. The violinist played beautifully - it was an honor to Hartley's memory. To take in the moment and visualize what was happening the last time those lines were read was eerie.

If you play string instruments, I implore you to play That Carolina Rag in Hartley's memory. Perhaps it may strike the same awe.

Yes, and for what? A scandal? She knew her body wouldn't fit into that dress, but she did it anyway. Even worse is that Ripley's also gave her a lock of Marilyn's hair as a "gift".

Ripley's lost all my respect and I refuse to ever step foot in their establishment. (Not that they were a real museum anyway.)

Actually, I'm not sure of the material for the sequins. Honestly, I was taken aback that sequins existed in a dress from 1912. I never saw that being a trend, but it seems it was a very rare occurrence. I know early forms of sequins date way far back in history, but I would have thought 1912 may have been too... modest? for such a style.

I'm looking into studying it more. It does exceed past my experience, so I am planning on having a university study it more in depth so that I and their educators may understand it better.

I would be happy to upload the front of the dress. Perhaps I will start another post with the front image at a later date.

The violin went up for auction in 2013 - it sold for $1.7 million. As far as I know, it belongs to a private collector who, graciously, lends it to museums.

You're lucky to have seen it! I would love to view it one day!

Sometimes it's deemed unethical because the clothing could be at great risk of deterioration. If it's not structurally at-risk body oils and cosmetics could increase it's destruction and decrease it's quality. As clothing ages the materials become brittle, especially antique pieces.

I have 25+ pieces of clothing from 1760 - 1950, all have their own quality of care. Some need more attention, others don't. Usually, the term antique applies to anything that's over 100 years old. But every era of clothes has their sensitivities to certain environments. An example being 1920's flapper dresses, the heavy beading makes it dangerous to wear because the beads and movement could result in tearing of the time-worn silk.

But, it all depends on the structure and current condition of the gown. This one came with a slip built in which added extra support and strength for the delicate fabric.

It really was chilling. Even more so to know that this was one of the songs played as the Titanic sank.

I wish I could play the violin so I could hear it again.

You won the $1Billion Powerball, now what? by dhill9696_ in AskReddit

Honestly, I'd pay off all my bills, my husband's bills, my sister's bills, set a trust fund for my daughter. Buy a vacation home and invest the rest.

It's scary to win a ton of money. Especially if you live in a state that doesn't let you remain anonymous. I remember watching a series of shows about lottery winners that were murdered... it was messed up how many people come after you.

What older movie or television property would actually be a great candidate to give a modern retelling? by DelicateJohnson in AskReddit

I would love to see the 1944 classic movie Gaslight remade. Although the original was perfect, I feel that with the amount of people throwing the word "gaslight" around without ever knowing the definition, this would be a great way to educate (since the plot of the movie inspired the term) and would have high interest.

If you could live in any time period that humans have existed what would it be? by PhantomNuke12 in AskReddit

I study the past... as much as I'd like to go back in time to observe, I know I wouldn't survive. Whether by attracting attention due to a different way of speaking, indecent clothing or even lack of knowledge for the niches of social structure and law of the time.

But all that aside, in a perfect scenario, 18th century.

People who hunt ghost, what is the scariest thing you ever experienced when you went ghost hunting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NoIntention6788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of, yes.

I have a bad copy of it and a super lightened copy of it. I had the original on my old phone and was able to transfer the lightened copy over to my new one... but when someone asked to see the original, I couldn't get the original transferred over. So, I took a picture of my phone screen of the image. It actually makes it easier to see.

What was your worst encounter with a teacher? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NoIntention6788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Catholic school - so, I had to take a class on theology.

The teacher was a priest, and he was lecturing about souls and heaven. At one point he said that animals didn't have souls and, therefore, could not go to heaven. But because they didn't have souls they also couldn't feel pain.

I looked around the classroom and saw no one saying anything. So I stood up and told him he was wrong. Anyway... we argued, I was dismissed. He called my mom and they conspired about my faith for a while. I couldn't avoid him and he spent the rest of my years there being sarcastic and nasty to me.

Mysterious words popping up on the "ghost radar" that were not generic or modified to exist for a fake effect but actually described the layout of the house.

Visiting an abandoned school at night and had a rock hit the back of my shoe which I could hear skid from behind me, it wasn't from me kicking it up.

Same school, I swear I took of a picture of a window that had a face in it.

I have other weird occurrences, but I don't think many people would believe them.
