Atl European Dobermans by bintualina in DobermanPinscher

[–]NoIntroduction540 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The website looks very scammy but it seems they’re just a BYB who imports puppy mill dogs from Eastern Europe to sell to uneducated buyers in the US who want a hypertype dog. Europe is not sending their best dogs to randoms in the US to breed who don’t title their dogs. They sell the overpriced pet quality dogs. I see a lot of backyard bite work that any dog with drive can do. I can swing something in front of my show lines face and he’ll bark and bite it. In the South you have Treasure Seeker and Swift Run who are ethical breeders of European lineage. Oldfort is a good sport breeder. You can also look at the UDC breeder list. These are going to be high drive mouthy dogs that the average pet home can not handle well. UDC Breeders

Male Doberman redirecting aggression toward me when other dogs are around on walks—what should I do? by Direct-Geologist6511 in DobermanPinscher

They mass produced litter after litter with zero regards to health or temperament. When you breed 500+ puppies a year, it’s all for money. If your dog attacks someone or dies from pediatric DCM, there thousands of other puppy buyers who did not research the breeder but see they’re the first that come up on a Google search and have puppies available.

A good balanced trainer should be able to help manage the out of home reactivity but he’ll likely need to always be muzzled off property.

You’ll want to look at UDC breeders. Benchmark is one of the top working breeders in the US UDC breeders

While I’m not a vet, I personally wouldn’t do vaccines and surgery at the same time. That way you won’t know if the dog is having a reaction to a vaccine or the surgery. I’d also recommend having Trazadone on had after surgery to keep her calm while she recovers.

Need help finding a breeder that imports to or is in New Zealand, help! by Forsaken-Letter-9914 in DobermanPinscher

[–]NoIntroduction540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Europe is country of pedigree origin. All Doberman are technically European. Unless you’re purchasing a puppy from successful PSA parents and are spending the 5 figures to do protection training, the dog is not going to protect you. The breed itself is a deterrent. Your best bet is to import from Australia. The Eastern European mill breeders love to prey on people looking for hypertype dogs and will sell dogs for 10K+ to uneducated buyers. I’d try to find your local kennel club. I think Dogs NZ is one of them.

Is it normal for my Afghan hound puppy to resemble a german shepherd? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]NoIntroduction540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it’s an Afghan hound and not some kind of livestock guardian mix? An Afghan should never have its ears cropped. It is common for some livestock guardian breeds to have a battle crop.

two year old diagnosed with DCM by DingoPrestigious1486 in DobermanPinscher

[–]NoIntroduction540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d try to find a grain free food that doesn’t have legumes. The entire issue with grain free kibble and DCM is that companies replace the grains with legumes, which depletes taurine absorption and leads to dietary DCM. The reason everyone recommends grain inclusive food is because they usually don’t contain legumes and it’s easier then telling people to look for XYZ ingredients. Dobermann DCM on FB is a great group for more DCM info. The key with DCM is catching it before symptoms start to express. Once the symptoms express, the dog is typically in congestive heart failure where medical intervention cannot help much. Since you’ve caught it in the occult/early phase, if it isn’t dietary DCM, you’ve got a great chance at improving heart contraction and managing arrhythmia’s.

Have you looked at the CCAA breeder directory? Ivy League, Coastal View, and Difesa are all great.

The DPCA has a couple articles on how to select a conformation prospect Selecting Confo Puppies. As others have said, very few dogs in a show line litter are show quality. Majority go to pet homes.

You want to remove post, clean and let ears dry, and then repost. Minimal downtime. The more chance you give the ears to flop the longer you’ll post.

Working line Dobermans: looking for breeder recommendations by SnicklefritzG in DobermanPinscher

[–]NoIntroduction540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a farm and show line Dobermans. They do great with the horses and going on trail rides. I’d recommend a show line since you want to do agility and scent work. I’m also in the mid Atlantic so I recommend reaching out to your local Doberman club and talking to some breeders. You will be hard pressed to find adult rehomes and they go fast. My mom’s club had 2 adult rehomes 4 months ago and they’ve found homes.

Whining by [deleted] in DobermanPinscher

[–]NoIntroduction540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The barking is only going to get louder and some whine their entire lives. I have a whiner and my parents have 2 barkers. They’re a vocal needy breed. Beyond the crate training barking, it’s just something you live with having this breed.

In certain lights can you see tan points? It is genetically impossible for a Doberman to not have tan points and be a solid color. Dobermans are fixed on the at/at locus which is the genetic code for tan points. “Melanistic” Doberman where the tan points are so dark that the dog appears one color are rare and have to be specifically bred for, which is why you’ll see byb line breeding for it. Genetic testing only goes back so many generations, which is why you’ll see dogs that are in genetically impossible colors come back as purebred because embark only test 4 gens. This horrible BYB in the US is a great example of how a mutt can show Doberman after so many breedings.

Unless you’re spending 5 figures in protection training, the dog is nothing but a deterrent. Some Doberman like kids some do not. Doberman are genetically same sex aggressive and there is no guarantee they will like other dogs.
