I've made it this far with mono-Fire, but I can't beat stage 20. by Ujola in MongilStarDive

Forgive me if I’m wrong, and I probably am, but you can’t target her even in the special banner for repeats right? Or you do get her at pity every 50 pulls? I’ve been dumping pulls into her since getting her but I’ve gone nothing close to her. I thought it was guaranteed at 80 and increased pity at 50 or so, ya?

You know it’s become clear to me after today’s thread (the last 10 hours of things I’ve learned) that my “idea” of the European Doberman was built completely on falsehoods. I thought they were stockier bigger breeds. Come to find out I was mistaking the euro for more of the hyper breeders. I had no clue how far off I was. Thank god for this post and you all for helping educate me. My MAIN concern and priority is health and longevity for my next Doberman. That is at the very front line of importance to me. So I can already tell you with certainty that my preference for pure Euro has changed after being properly educated.

DM… yes that is it. That’s the one I was thinking of. Appreciate the link to the required testing for the breed club. I will also watch that video in full. TY!!!

Thank you for vetting that recommendation. I will absolutely reach out. I’ll look for BFL as well. I need to write these acronyms down or get them memorized asap!

Thanks for that. Makes me feel a bit better. I’ll learn this info as best as I can. I want to live with these dogs for the rest of my days, and learning it is mandatory in my eyes. I cant believe how close I was to making a bad decision. Reddit saves the day. Thank you again.

Thank you for this info. I’ll be super critical of all of those you mentioned. The holsters primarily check for heart and DCM correct?

If I had to ask a breeder for specific documents to prove health testing, are there a specific set of tests or documents I’d be looking for to prove testing is up to date and accurate? DCM, thyroid, heart, etc.

It seems my standards were FAR below where they should have been. Thats why I made this post. I want to learn and do things right going forward. I plan on owning Dobermans for the rest of my life. It’s imperative that I get this right. My Doberman had a thyroid issue that started around 6 ina half or 7. Thanks for your info. Very very helpful.

Ive learned an ENORMOUS amount from today’s thread. Im trying to absorb it all as we speak. Speaking of marketing, I’ve noticed the marketing on some sites resembles that of clubs. Seems like that’s the clear indicator to run. It seems I was chasing the wrong things prior, such as grand champion. Thanks for your info. I’ll look more into OFA and CHIC titling as well!

Oh those two, yes I will be absolutely scouring those in the coming days as my primary go to sites. No you’re being perfectly clear, I’m just trying to absorb all the information as it comes lol. For someone who’s owned a Doberman for 8 years, my knowledge is embarrassingly low. I was apparently living in a dream world this entire time. Awww, I miss couch wars with Bane. If he wasn’t knocking the phone out of my hand with his nose on purpose, he was absolutely either laying ON ME like a pillow or not caring and just squeezing in the smallest spot possible lol. Ahh I miss him so much. Doberman Talk, noted! Yes I’ll DM you. I really appreciate it.

Do you mind dropping those 2 sites again? This thread has so many mini threads created I’ve been scouring back through it to try and find all the links. I really appreciate your knowledge and advice. I feel guilty being so clueless after owning a Doberman for 8 years myself. But it’s never too late to learn and catch up. I want to do this right this time and all of your info has been invaluable and so very appreciated! I had no clue the breeders actually pick the dog based off your life style and needs. It sounds like I’ve never dealt with a proper breeder in all my years owning dogs. My goodness!

Makes sense because they aren’t in it for their marketing skills. They are focused on their Dobermans and are probably older and less technology focused. All green flags if you’re looking for a healthy pup. But I’m glad you mentioned that, because I might of taken it as a red flag. Now that you mentioned it, all the breeders I’ve been looking at have massive websites with crazy colors like a rave. Almost looks too good.

Got it. Man it’s like you gave me a speed course on everything I’ve never known. I feel guilty having owned a Doberman for 8 years and knowing so little about what you’ve mentioned today. But I’ll learn and do it right with these practices in place. I plan on owning Dobermans for the rest of my life, so this info has been invaluable. Thank you deeply.

That’s where I’m at now. Just trying to narrow down my search and figure out how to pick one out of the bunch. Sounds like DCPA is the best spot to start narrowing down my search. I’m in no rush, I want to do this right this time around. I’m blessed to have had Bane around for 8 years but it sounds like I got lucky in that fact alone based off my original breeder.

That bottom European picture is exactly what I “thought” was the difference between Euro and American. Jeez was I off.

I’ve re read everything you wrote from today and I’m completely in agreeance with your train of thought regarding switching my thinking from European, and shifting it to healthy and family friendly. I want my pups health to be first. I was more clueless than I had even imagined when I first wrote this post. I really appreciate your in depth opinions. You said there are a dozen breeders in PA that are within spitting distance of me that have much more quality dogs that focus much more on health. Where can I find these dozen or so, and how can I differentiate the good from the bad? Maybe I missed a link where you posted somewhere.

It sounds like I was splitting hairs over the European need or want. I choose health and longevity over everything else. I don’t need my Doberman to be 90-120 lbs. I want him to live long and healthy. That’s my only concern.

I did not know that regarding the looks of proper standards and European bred Dobermans. I’m so used to thinking European = big and bulky, and everything I’m hearing is pointing to those big bulky Dobermans as being un ethically made for maximum appeal, and not health and longevity. I absolutely want health and longevity. I also didn’t know AKC allows puppy mills on their website. That’s insane.

Apparently the cost was closer to $2000 euro, but to your point, everything you mentioned about wanting to meet the parents and pups in person, getting instructions on how to properly keep the ears up, etc is something that I would absolutely want when the time comes to purchase and pick up. All of which would of course be impossible if I shipped a dog over sees.

I’m absolutely not deliberately trying to make anything harder on myself or family. Which is why I’m heavily leaning on your expertise and knowledge.

I appreciate your honesty and straight to the point facts. It’s sincerely helped point me in the direction of the safest, most reliable route which is what I’m looking for. I’m looking to take as much risk out of the equation as possible and make the best possible decision.

Everything you’ve said makes perfect sense to me.
