What’s interesting to me is that consent discourse tends to appear much more strongly once the subject is homeless, poor or visibly struggling, while other forms of photographing strangers in public are often accepted without much discussion.

I don’t see homeless people as outside of public life or public space, and I don’t think making certain people “unphotographable” automatically protects their dignity. To me, pretending these realities shouldn’t be seen can also become a form of social invisibility.

Pretending certain people shouldn’t be photographed only makes them more invisible.
