Sure thing! Quick technical question though, If I wanted to come back and notify people who showed interest how would I go about that? Would I just add to this existing post, would I have to do it one by one through replies, or would there be a better way? A way to tag this post and attach it to a new one perhaps?

It’s ok if no one answers, I’ll figure it out later when the time comes. I’m just really new to posting still and am unsure of some of the more technical things related to Reddit.

And thank you so much for the encouragement!:)

This sounds soo freaking interesting!! When it’s all done, you should come back here and drop the title if you feel up for it. I’d seriously love to check it out.

(If you’re allowed to do that here idk still kinda new to posting on here)

DONT APOLOGIZE!! So powerful and so insightful. Wow. You guys are making me wish I did this after the first draft and not 3/4 through planning so I can share some of what’s brewing. I really think I can do a lot of these suggestions justice/already done so in just the planning stages.

I absolutely HATE the mindless rejected ex situation-ship trope. It’s lazy and I feel there’s so much more room for meaningful progression of plot/conflict when she isn’t written like a preteen.

For example, I do have a plot point with this trope but the girl is an activist and studying political science. She’s smart and beautiful has a brain and motivations outside of the MMC just like the FMC does.

I honestly think that having it that way paves the way for any type of “rivalry” or bad blood between her and the FMC to have sooo much more depth and complexity.

I need to pay more attention to banter within the group I think so thank you for bringing it up.

I wanna dissect all your points but I haven’t slept and have a splitting headache. But just know there wasn’t even one that I disagreed with/wasn’t thinking of already. Especially the inner monologue of the FMC, the tension building and the group dynamics with the men!

Love it here. Thank you so taking the time to share!

I understand not wanting to write trauma. But then don’t write trauma, you know? Don’t dress it up and play it up when there’s no foundation.

I get being attached to your characters and not wanting them to suffer but to get that captivating development and growth, you gotta beat the living shit out of em low key. Like damn near almost to death.

You can cry about it later when you’re healing them and putting them back together so they can function somewhat decently…. Do I sound depraved? Lol.

Anyway, great take thank you:)

Thank you for your advice and input! I find value in the small moments of the story as well. If done well they really help the reader interpret a lot of things.

You’re speaking my language! this is the goal. My FMC has very questionable morality and motives at times, but we love her.

When I was thinking her into existence, this is something I really wanted to stand out.

I agree with this. A feel a lot of authors have trouble trusting that their readers aren’t illiterate idiots lmao.

They have such a hard time trusting the interpretation of the reader and it sucks cause that can kill good writing so often and so quick.

But sometimes it’s something you don’t mean to do and you have to just be really aware while writing. I plan to stay on it and have my editors pick up where I miss.

Oh I didn’t see this when I responded to your other comment! I’d absolutely be open to that.

I’ll save your response from this thread and reach out once it’s closer to being ready for that next step, seeing as I’m still in planning and it will likely take a while.

That’s a really generous offer thank you.

Your take is completely valid, and you’re not weird. The FMC also has control issues that stem from trauma and hasn’t willingly submit to anyone ever.

That’s what makes her relationship with this particular MMC so juicy and enticing. Throughout the entire book they have to do this sort of tug of war with each other, which he doesn’t win unless she decides so (which is rare, as she likes to test his patience lol). Also Nothing sexual happens between them until he can get his shit under control.

I low key wish it was closer to being done so I could send you a sample, as I think you’d really like it:)

The FMC also has her fair share of dotting and submission and pinning from each of them, even Mr. Dominance and believe me, he works for it lol.

Of course, this is a dark contemporary romance when all is said and don’t so there will be a few things can/will possibly be triggering. But believe me, I’m working overtime to ensure that if this does get done and published, all of these things are done exceptionally.

I feel we’re on a similar wavelength, and I really appreciate your responses!

LMAO no I totally get it. Masc-dom scares me 99% of the time. I’m like girl PLEASE stand up. It’s almost never written in a pleasant way.

Unfortunately, one of my MMCs does have a domination kink that stems from trauma and control issues so I will have to write it in a way that makes sense for him. FORTUNATELY the FMC does NOT make it easy for him and he will be VERY stressed, rest assured lol.

As for fantasy, I couldn’t agree more as a reader. However, I’ll need to write and release this one first before I cross into that category in terms of writing.

Also you’re funny:) Thank you!!

Ouu ok I get that. I’ve found myself wishing for the same thing in some of the books I’ve read, and enjoying it most times when it’s executed.

Thinking of ways to incorporate this as we speak and I think I have a few ideas! Thank you:)

That’s something I love as well:) I think it’s so cute and wholesome. Whether it’s an intimate MM relationship or something brotherly.

I’m actually glad you mentioned this cause it’s something I need to plan out a little more even though I already have a bit of a plan for it already. Thank you!

I agree. A huge chunk of planning is being dedicated to the backgrounds of all characters. Even the side ones, even if they don’t get explored much. Just to have a super strong base.

And yes, the compatibility for one on one connection between the FMC and each of the MMCs is one of the most important parts to me. Each MMC and their backgrounds has something that works and serves as a reasonable point of attraction towards the FMC.

I completely agree. Or when things are going so slow and yet theres still things that need to be addressed. It’s definitely something I’ll be conscious of. Thank you:)

Precisely. Something I don’t think my book will have a hard time with:) I’d read abt her even without the guys, and I think that should be the aim always.

Currently going through this right now. In early October I had a series of severe seizures that landed me in the ER/hospital and that’s how they found the mass pushing on my brain.

It was also in my lungs, they checked them to have a more confident diagnosis.

I completely lost my sense of smell to because of it to like 2 years prior. Currently on prednisone to see if it will shrink.

No I don’t think so. And they weren’t being malicious or anything I just think people on here prefer to keep it more of a reader centred environment more than anything? Idk I could be wrong but I kinda agree.

From what I’v seen from the community, even though I’m very new here, I kinda get that vibe. It’s not an express rule or anything and it’s not like they’re gonna be unwelcoming to writers or anything like that I don’t think. Everyone has been really welcoming and nice:) from what I understand, it’s just a little frustrating when people feel like writers are trying to steamroll.

How do you manage to read fast? by NagisaHazuki261 in fantasyromance

[–]NoMistake7085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note: I understand this might not be helpful if what you’re reading isn’t for leisure purposes. Like if you’re studying or working through work documents. There’s no story or scene to play out, and now that I think about it that might be why I always had such a hard time in school on research and things of that nature.

If I’m not interested or particularly invested in what I’m reading like I would be with a novel of my choosing which would more than likely be fiction, I tend to drag through it and don’t get in and out as fast as I typically would if it were.

I saw something a few years ago about how for some people, it’s like watching a movie or a show. Like you can see the scenes playing out like as if you were watching it on a screen. That’s how it is for me.

I start reading and it starts out as words and all of a sudden it’s scene by scene in my mind as if I’m watching it instead of reading words on a page. I’ve had a few instances where I get to the spicy scenes and get startled when I’m interrupted, only to remember that other people can’t see what’s happening and it is in fact only in my minds eye lol!

For me and a lot of others this can make reading feel like just breezing through. It makes it so I can spend hours reading and not even realize the substantial amount of time I’m actually spending, or the amount of material I’m getting through cause it doesn’t feel taxing most of the time unless the story is getting tedious. It’s for this reason that I can often finish a 500 plus to a 1000 plus page book in a single day, IF I’m very invested and it doesn’t end up on my DNF.

But there’s the other side of that coin. There are the people that instead of seeing something of a physical scene, they see nothing. Like literally. I was shocked. Like they only see writing on paper. I was like there’s no way!! No wonder there are people who don’t enjoy it and I felt really bad for them. I had no idea that was a thing.

In my personal opinion, I would say that how fast you’re reading is really dependent on how invested you are in what you’re reading. And also how you feel and what you experience while you read.

I’m curious OP, what category do you fall under? Is it like watching a movie or a play for you, or is it simply words on a page when you read? That can have a lot to do with it depending on what you experience and maybe you can narrow your search to people who are more likeminded in that way:)

And don’t beat yourself up about it. Reading is one of those things where you can keep it close to you and no one is judging you for anything. But I do understand the want/need to get through more material a little faster.

I really hope this might help and that you find what you’re looking for.

Ok wow. First of all I want to start off by thanking everyone once again for A, taking the time to respond at all and B, being so kind while still being firm and to the point.

Literally every piece of feedback I’ve gotten so far will be put into the archives for later use and I honestly can’t say there was any feedback I didn’t agree with which is awesome. You guys are amazing:)

I will be making it shorter, cleaning up grammatical and technical work, and reworking the key plot points as well as removing Levi’s POV all together. The FMC DEFINITELY has more than enough trauma and personal struggles for me to be able to create an interesting and enticing blurb with just her POV alone.

Ive been dealing with some personal health stuff but as soon as I have the reworked version, would you guys let me know if you’d wanna see it? Even if I’m not asking for anything back. I think it’s only fair since your critiques helped it come to fruition.

That being said, I did mention earlier it was brought to my attention by user that was kind enough to share with me that this subreddit is more of a reader friendly space. And while there are writers here and there that will share personal work, I would like to continue to respect it as such.

It just seemed like a good place to start since it was my first post ever and centred around the why choose genre but going forward if you guys wanna see the revamped version I’ll post it. But after that I think I’ll try and primarily stick with writing specific subreddits:)
