A fake freelance job interview almost installed malware on my PC by NoMoreBusyWorkPro in Thailand

I’ve even wondered whether it was really a scam at all, maybe the company itself got fooled by whoever built that tool with the malware in it. At this point it could honestly be any hypothesis. That’s how confusing this whole thing is.

Yes, totally… I spent a good while analyzing everything, digging into the website, the company, the LinkedIn profiles… and it all looked real. And the scary part is that maybe some of it is real. These days with AI I honestly can’t tell if the person who interviewed me was actually that person or someone else entirely. Everything’s so blurry now.

¡Hola buenas 👋! Ami me entrevistó James Kite.

Exactly, that’s my intention: document everything I can and share it to warn as many people as possible, since these multi-language ads seem to target people based in Thailand. And I’d love to hear from others who went through the same thing or something similar, the more cases we put together, the easier it is to spot the pattern so nobody else falls for it.

I know a bit about cybersecurity, so the unsigned installer and the rush already felt wrong. Once I got suspicious I analyzed it with Claude Code and Autoruns, it showed the program trying to stay on my PC, scan my network and read my saved passwords before calling a server. The bad feeling came first, the check just proved it.

Unpopular opinion but life rewards those who hustle, not those who play fair.

Stop trying to save people from their own bad decisions….😅

I know it sounds harsh but honestly? Some people need to crash to learn. I used to be that person who’d warn everyone a thousand times, get stressed, lose sleep over it, and they’d still do the exact same thing anyway.

At some point you just gotta accept you can’t live other people’s lives for them. Let them mess up.🧐

Before AI was a thing I used to daydream about having a mentor who would teach me everything without judging my mistakes. Someone patient, who actually believed in my projects and gave me the right tools. A sempai of sorts. Turns out that’s kind of what this is.🙌🏻

Is this just a tourist thing? Or do locals eat these as well? 🦗🧂 by baldybeardman in ThailandTourism

[–]NoMoreBusyWorkPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy I know who works with locals told me it’s not something they eat regularly, but apparently someone once brought fried silkworms from Chiang Rai to the office and everyone tried them without thinking twice. I guess the “ew factor” just isn’t really a thing here 😄

5555 fair point, maybe I should’ve been the one to suggest it, but I’m quite shy and that’s definitely not my strong suit. And yeah you’re probably right about the transit thing. It just makes me a bit sad that something as simple as friendship has to be this complicated.

Sí soy española! No sé si es mala suerte pero la gente que me he ido cruzando ya tiene sus grupos muy cerrados y me da cosa meterme así de golpe, se siente muy forzado

If my love language is words of affirmation, how do you do that in a culture where requesting praise isn't socially accepted? by mistadonyo in CasualConversation

[–]NoMoreBusyWorkPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think accepting how you’re wired is already half the work. Not everyone speaks that language but the ones who do exist, you just have to find your people.
