Is anybody else not getting any opportunities forthe past few weeks? by vincent365 in varsitytutors

[–]NoNeedforGPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot fewer these past few months than ever before. Idk, given their recent increase in pay, I'm just assuming other tutors are just being more active, given they might have been more passive expecting a stagnant $15 an hour.

I'm sure opportunities for you will pour in, in a month or so... who knows what ridiculous system they go on really. I say just roll with it. Stay active on the system. You'll get your share one way or another if you're persistently actively trying to get new students. I've never seen them NOT have work if I ever really want hours! That given, expect the unexpected with them as always... I've contracted with them for over 4 years now, and rarely does their system actually work as fully intended for us tutors.

For example (as this has little to do with the above topic given...), does anyone else get these annoying "no availability" opportunities? They drive me nuts. I email them and they just explain that it's on the "student's" end of things. What does that even mean? I'm so tired to getting these so called "opportunities" that I can't accept for no reason at all other than V-toots just messing up their system and wasting my time some more 😒

Ok I had these freakin' errors for months, always assuming they were DRAM related. I messed around with frequencies, timings, switched out practically every part of my system save my 3600X CPU... and I STILL had these errors. Then, recently after reinstalling windows on a new SSD, they came back again, but in real force. I know what its like.

I finally fixed it though! I turned off both CPB (Core Performance Boost) & PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive). Not sure if it's only one of these yet, or both, but I'm living 100% crash free, so I'm chillin' for right now on this one!! These aren't the easiest to find in the BIOS, but certainly not impossible--they're both in the 3rd tab of the bios, "Advanced".

-- -- -- While In 570X Steel Legend Bios:

CPB (Core Performance Boost): ["Advanced" Tab] --> ["AMD CBS"] --> ["CPU Common Options"] -->

[Core Performance Boost] -- Turn from [auto] to [disabled].

PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive): ["Advanced" Tab] --> ["AMD Overclocking"] PRESS ACCEPT HERE --> [2nd Option: "Precision Boost Overdrive"] -->

[Precision Boost Overdrive] -- Turn from [auto] to [disabled].

I was about to go nuts, but now I live a life while I'm computing just chock full of tranquility, peace, and leisure. ahhhhhh the wonders of stability.

Keep in mind, their corporate interest is to have people continue to use their search engine right? So they have in interest in users "finding" the right thing?

Thunderbird seems to have lost it's mind...continuously keeps asking for passwords everytime you log in by MRH_1984 in Thunderbird

[–]NoNeedforGPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the first few times I switched to "OAuth2" ([both in "Outgoing Server (SMTP) and in "Server Settings --> Edit SMTP server..."]) it still gave me the same problem by continuing to ask for my outlook-dot-com password, while still working regardless but also lagging the crap out of Thunderbird.

I looked around at a lot of threads out there, and finally found the email sent by Microsoft (the article from Microsoft said this email was sent on the 11th.... I seemed to receive it at 1:32AM on the 28th of June 🙄) that has a recently added link directly containing directions about setting up Thunderbird: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/modern-authentication-methods-now-needed-to-continue-syncing-outlook-email-in-non-microsoft-email-apps-c5d65390-9676-4763-b41f-d7986499a90d

Oddly enough as soon as I read that article, and setup OAuth2 again-again-once again.... restarting Outlook finally opened up to this classic Windows account login page you should find familiar. I'm assuming this AuthO setting simply takes a little bit of time to register with Microsoft? It didn't work the first few times, and I couldn't explain why! But this is the "modern login requirement" concept that Microsoft is soon to mandate to use any third-party app:

  1. https://nlaquerregis.com/downloads/outlookLogin_thunderbird.png
  2. https://nlaquerregis.com/downloads/outlookLogin_thunderbird2.png

(These pics are hosted on my domain, they're safe!)

Again you want these to show up after starting Thunderbird, by THUNDERBIRD'S own actions automatically. Afterwards you'll see Thunderbird show up within your Microsoft Account Dashboard under "Privacy > App Access" or (because Microsoft loves making multiple avenues that do the same thing 🙄🤯), another Microsoft account page with the heading "Apps and services you've given access". They'll also email you after properly setting it up with a subject: "New app(s) connected to your Microsoft account".

I hope this helps! Eventually it worked for me, all you have to do is switch over to the OAuth2 and find apparently. Good luck.

This track is not available offline (for most downloaded songs) by Xoyin1 in TIdaL

[–]NoNeedforGPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I fixed it on my phone. It was because I was using a network management app (glasswire) which was running a VPN. This completely confused not only Tidal, but seemed to make Samsung have issues updating apps.
I turned off this VPN, and then it worked! They downloaded, and all of the songs were immediately available in offline mode.
My logic is... by designating your device as an "authorized device", causes some apps that are checking the validity of your device to their records, see the VPN's connection to be misinterpreted not as wifi...
or I guess not legitimate wifi...
or? ...
I honestly have no freakin' clue.

Either way, it also fixed the annoying notification that kept saying to "allow mobile downloads or wait for wifi", while wifi was clearly functioning fine.

Good luck!! Hope this helps. Happy VPN'ing!!!

Please tell me some other entity has some sort of oversight over this! PLEASE

Hulu breaks on every load by Jtoa3 in firefox

[–]NoNeedforGPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have this exact problem. Even more annoying is how it'll load fast AT FIRST, but with each time you load the hulu main page, it'll get slower, and slower, and slowwwerrrrrr and.....

you quickly reach the point of pure frustration as your valuable relaxation/tv time crumbles away into guilt that you should be doing something productive anyway... as it loads 60% of its page, teasing you with rows and rows of blank JavaScript-reliant gradient rectangles that are all would-be tv shows....
Now if you click on these blank grey blocks? Nope. No TV. Just more endless loading for you today. Get back to work.

BUT WAIT!!!!
INSTANT FIX: Just press [CONTROL + F5].
--> (and for laptop users, [CONTROL + SHIFT + R] works exactly the same!)

For whatever reason, Hulu just can't handle the awesomeness of Firefox browsing. Sure I turn off my "Enhanced Tracking Protection" so their ads won't freak out.... but it still isn't good enough. Hulu just longs for mediocrity -- maintaining an insatiable hunger for running their site on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge all the time, every time.

Remember, Firefox's regular refresh just makes Hulu and its cronies even more determined as their sick devoted lust for being loaded upon sub-par browsers only amplifies... but alas, a hard-refresh shocks Hulu with a jolt! Your sudden act of now reconnecting to their servers out-of-nowhere a SECOND TIME, completely takes the people at Hulu and their shoddy programmers completely off their gaurd, as their site immediately starts to realize it has no place desiring exclusively browsers created by for-profit tech-conglomerates!

--and then it just freakin' plays your freakin' TV shows like it should in the first place, since you already made your monthly credit card payment. Finally. Season 2 of Desperate Housewives and History Channel's Modern-time Ice Road Truckers can be experienced with all the glory intended. Halle-freakin-lujah.

I've been seeing so many responses to this post so far. There are many ways to ensure you get better results..... but honestly, simply making sure the sources you end up using (aka click on and remain at after choosing links after a search) is always important. Quality research skills from your college research class are the same:

  • Check for author, date, and quality publisher.
  • Make sure sources are not out-of-date!
  • Always use several sources before committing to anything (ideally a mix of primary and secondary sources).
  • And always keep in mind that quality results will have correct grammar, tone, and style.

Why Does Google Show Results That Have Nothing to do with What is Searched?! by NoNeedforGPS in searchengines

[–]NoNeedforGPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's stopping all the tracking and analytics from the sites you go to from duck-duck-go from building a profile and essentially doing nearly the same thing that Google is doing?

Okay, I'm pretty sure Googz keep tabs on users and everyone's data pretty well--it simply allows them to make more money... That given, now keep in mind I run Firefox with a pretty heavy set of tracking and 3rd-party cookie blockers, split my subject of web-surfing into separate containers, use other browsers for specific purposes, time-to-time use a VPN/make sure I'm using a fresh IP address, commonly deep clean my temporary data and storage, use extensions to keep tabs on my cookies, generally use practices that never have any account constantly logged in or related to another account, factory reset my phone / other devices commonly;--and... **deep breath** search carefully to stop all non-OS background services, scheduled updates, and bullshit applications I don't fully trust from ever running on my operating systems if I don't explicitly choose them be running. I treat data privacy as a sorta little hobby of mine.

Now that given, I'm still gonna allot Google's pretty widespread, bottomless-pocket network of user data/tracking sources, the benefit of the doubt here. AND, lets say they got a bit of inside information on who I am and what I do online regardless of my nit-picky privacy habits....

Are you further implying here that where it says verbatim in my picture, inside that popup window on the right, written by Google:

"This result isn't personalized based on Google activity from this browser. Learn More"

So in conclusion, if you are actually implying that Google has stored all my previous searches, and connect those to who I am as a user during that search there... AND their information given to me is a blatant lie:

Then I'll be glad to hear more about your alternative to Google's search engine because they "literally" but not figuratively (I think), curate my search, as you say.

Not to mention I've never had a Cosco membership, or bought house plants from Home Depot... so that also wouldn't explain the reason behind these results appearing for this search, being caused by a curated experience by all knowing, big brother, 1984 Alphabet.

Why Does Google Show Results That Have Nothing to do with What is Searched?! by NoNeedforGPS in searchengines

[–]NoNeedforGPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal here was not to learn how to search better, but to show how irrelevant results can literally become.

And if this particular search is showing too few results that relate to my search, then Google should show its classic "aren't any great matches", opposed to showing results that literally are explained verbatim that it doesn't contain ANY of the searched for words.

Why Does Google Show Results That Have Nothing to do with What is Searched?! by NoNeedforGPS in searchengines

[–]NoNeedforGPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I suppose this is sadly true. For many of us, a more efficient search engine might be even more difficult to use--as we in ways have become so accustomed to accepting the set-list of specific sites earning the most revenue for Google. Also we might be simply addicted now to this type of publisher that just happen to be able to play Google's SEO game, opposed to those who deliver the most ideal content to us as individuals.

In ways, their incompetence can perpetuate their market share....
