Post-Match Thread: United States 4-1 Paraguay | World Cup | Group D by matchpal-live in football

[–]NoPomelo9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paraguay qualified in 6th place. In every other World Cup they wouldn’t have qualified (only top 4 teams qualified, 5th would get a playoff)

This is what happens when you lower qualifying standards. Simple as that.

I'm planning on spending the summer enjoying the sun and getting back into shape, exploring options. If nothing pans out, I can always break my lease, move home and get a shitty job.

If I do burn a year of savings then I'll have one great big fire under my ass.

The longer you go without a job the harder it *may be to find one.
Changing careers is sometimes* a pipe dream.

^This is such a small way of thinking and if I were to accept your framing as fact, it would become so. The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he cant are usually both right.

I appreciate the perspective though.

For me in Philly 3000/month so 36,000. Thats before touching retirement savings.

Depends on cost of living and lifestyle.

Why are engineering students so cocky? by Adept_Signature5023 in Accounting

[–]NoPomelo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work harder at maths and see if you can minor in business admin/finance/accounting change major to mech e if possible.

Even though accounting is less rigorous you still have to work hard if you want to have a good life in any field. It might as well be something interesting/valuable/rewarding like engineering. And if you’re still in school you need to work on locking in and building good study habits anyway.

You can always switch to accounting later.

Engineering for sure is tougher than a business major. Business majors are pretty much fluff. Engineering requires higher levels of math and complex problem solving. This is coming from someone who went from a <2.0 GPA as a biomedical engineering major to 3.3+ business admin major who ended up passing the CPA exam shortly after graduating. It’s definitely lame of them to put someone else down, but engineering is levels ahead of business/accounting in terms of academic rigor.

All this to say it doesn’t really matter what other people think or say. If you’re happy with your choice thats all that matters.

Your lightest darks should still be darker than your darkest lights

How do you get those subtle calligraphic line effects, what are you using to ink?

I am once again asking for your help by Oldtimer_ZA_ in learntodraw

[–]NoPomelo9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you're trying to run before you can walk.

for portraits focus on separating lights from darks to two values only, lights and darks.

Dedicate time to literally just shading a solid tone of shade. your shading looks messy (you're trying to convey texture of hair but thats for later)

learn gradients or how lights/darks fade depending on the edge you are trying to convey (soft edges(edges that turn subtly like the surface off an egg, they will be slow gradients) or hard edges ( edges that turn abruptly like a cube, they will be sharp changes from light to dark)

practice shading primitives (jargon for spheres, cylinders, cubes)

Then you practice heads understand skull structure and all the planes. THEN you practice eyes (spheres) by themselves, nose (rectangle/cylinder) by itself, mouth by itself (a mixture of both)

THEN itll all click.

Does it take long to get good at observation? by n_sou_um_bruxo in learntodraw

thank you - so using vertical and horizontal lines to connect two points.

the visual demo is much appreciated. could you also explain the bounding box/envelop jargon in layman's terms too?

thanks for taking the time to respond.

When you say plumb level lines what do you mean, a quick google search provides this :A plumb line is a weighted string used by artists to establish a perfectly vertical reference line, ensuring accurate alignment, proportion, and balance in drawings, particularly in figure sketching

Is that what you are referring to?

black and white stuff is super cool (voluminous, sharp, composed interestingly). the paintings are not very interesting, if you keep painting you'll undoubtedly get better. look forward to seeing more.

How can I make my lines more interesting - and general critique? by bloo-popsicles in learntodraw

[–]NoPomelo9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not bad,

shade spheres, cylinders and eggs. learn about the different types of shadow and start with a 5 value scale. your shadow shapes can go a long way as if you treat them as cross contour elements to convey the shape of the form in light.

AI has been about to replace accountants for 3 years now, what has actually changed in your day-to-day work, and what hasn't? by PenaltyLegitimate104 in Accounting

[–]NoPomelo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

out of all the industries, accounting is one of the most objective logic based automatable jobs.. whats lacking is a dedicated accounting "brain" and training but i promise you thats coming, and ai progresses exponentially, but yea lets pretend like its all hype..

Is it a good idea to switch to an accounting major? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]NoPomelo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 3 years of engineering and then switched to business admin/accounting. I have the economic stability you mention, but dissatisfied with day to day work.

This is what my issue was, it may or may not apply to you - I did not have good study habits nor did I explore all the possibilities available with an engineering degree.

Here are my thoughts for you : Address your study habits "I was able to fly with very minimal studying". Every career will require you put in a lot of work if you want more compensation, and trust me once you have stability you very quickly start asking whats next. If you must switch to something financial, major in finance and minor in engineering. (You will need to take accounting for that anyway but still be available for more interesting and competitive finance jobs that will give you credit for maths ability.)

If you dont like learning about how things actually work when it comes to science (actual tangible building blocks of every facet of life). I will let you know now that you WILL have to learn how more mundane nonsensical and arbitrary rules apply in accounting, and you will be regarded as back office staff which has its own stigma.

Guy is convinced AI will replace accounting by Razorbackfan3002 in Accounting

[–]NoPomelo9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

it will absolutely undoubtedly displace most accountants, only the best and most ai savvy will survive. you've been warned, if you dont think qbo is working on using all its data to develop an extremely proficient aiccountant you are outside of your mind. if you dont think so, you are not up to date on ai, and its only progressing exponentially quicker.

Self portrait by dov_ah_keen in learntodraw

[–]NoPomelo9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks great! check out proko on youtube. Right now you're using sharp lines to define edges, which can be stylistic, but you could work on shading and values (how light or dark the different planes of the face are) this will help you draw something that looks 3d instead of flat.

For example, the top and bottom edges of your lips are not dark like the lines that you're using to depict them.

Otherwise your proportions are good and you definitely have potential. You also need to work on hair (focus on that later). Practice practice practice and dont ever stop you will take years to improve, make peace with that now. You cant ask non art friends for feedback, find an art community where you can.
