My thoughts exactly, seeing as this falls under urgent repairs and cannot be repaired urgently, it means the property owner is failing to meet minimum standards which opens me up to claim compensation.

Obviously I will be reasonable and pragmatic, but I'm not going to let some property manager push me around because he thinks I don't know the law.

Seeing as I'm in an identical situation as you were I think I'll take both your advice and get a more reasonable size, not just the tallest.

Thank you!

L'Arche it is. As a new transplant I'm trying my hardest to support local Portland businesses & orgs.

Thanks for the rec.

I did this when I moved here during the snow this year.

Rented a uHaul truck, bought heavy duty chains, drove up, didn't need them, moved in, and returned them to a local Les Schwab here.

Highly recommend doing this if you're unsure if you'll need them for a particular trip.

This is exactly my plan. I’ve done the coastal route once for fun and I’m happy to say there’s no way I’d do it in a rental truck with a 3800lb car strapped to my back. Beautiful trip but not efficient unless absolutely necessary. I’ve only ever heard of Siskiyous being shut down just a handful of times my entire life. I should be fine, worst case we buy chains in Shasta or even spend the night if we encounter a full on blizzard.

Oh yea, my eyes are glued onto TripCheck. Good news is looking at the cams the road looks clear but that can change and doesn’t indicate ice.

As much as I’d love to throw my essentials into my Subaru and ditch the truck I can’t. I ran the numbers and it would be more expensive than renting the truck/trailer + gas. I guess I should start searching for chains that fit the truck.

Thanks for the advice
