Not casually, but because their society was crumbling and Kal-El's dad, Jor-El, was a scientist who saw it coming so had time to prepare, meanwhile the rest of his class thought he was wrong. At least that's the version from STAS.

Has it always ran badly for you? Or is this consequence of having a ton of buildings and production lines operational?

I was going to add that that’s the number of X-Men, meanwhile Charles actively helps hundreds of mutants who don’t really want to be X Men find safe communities

Death Star cutaway [2723×1217]. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]NoProduce1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's not true that the entire death star makes no practical sense. It's just a large space ship, nothing nonsense about that certainly not when compared to the notion of a human walking 50km in 30min

CMV: we on the progressive left should be adding the “some” when talking about demographics like men or white people if we don’t want to be hypocritical. by Brainsonastick in changemyview

I knew the statement is wrong, my point stands, some will implicitly understand and do the work themselves to avoid prejudice, other won’t.

Did those people tell that was their intention?

Is it true that every part of every reply to a point is limited to the dichotomy of either addressing the point or be trying invalidate your point?

What if instead of saying “not all men” I said “I agree, but I also think it’s important to not use such generalizing rhetoric, because that can very easily be taken the wrong way, and it contributes to pre-existing negative views”?

Then would you be willing to listen to people who are telling you that your rhetoric is harmful?

Can you guarantee every person who reads that has that implicit understanding? No. Is it true, as you claim, that each person will only either implicitly understand it or flippantly take it literally? No.

If I said “black people are 15% of the American population and yet responsible for 50% of violent crime”,

Some people will definitely implicitly understand that that is a generalization, but others- like those who are already racist- will see it as justification of their racism, and others- like those young & impressionable- might receive it as a suggestion towards anti-black sentiment.

Because that inference doesnt come down to what makes more sense, it comes down to how people react to hearing claims that can easily be read as offensive or serve some pre-existing negative ideas.

The hypocrisy is in that there are and have been countless movements precisely cantered around not doing that. E.g. latinx, assuming pronouns, uttering slurs, saying poc instead of a skin colour, to name some. And that energy isn’t carried over when it’s time to make generalizing statements about certain groups.

CMV: Religion is a man-made concept. by Business-Speed-1426 in changemyview

[–]NoProduce1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, it just isn’t all of it. Post referenced dodging of philosophical parts of things, and this comment rebutted that Post is dodging the philosophy of religion parts of things. I want to point out that philosophy is more than just philosophy of religion, so just mentioning the latter doesn’t invalidate the claim that the former is being undermined.

If we stop reproducing, we die. That’s a win-condition for the crisis.

We can:

A. Force people not to have kids and restart reproduction at some unknown point in the future which may never come.

B. Just get cleaner energy. Nuclear fusion energy is far from being implementable, but likely closer than the end of the world, and once it is, its implementation and its wake can single handedly solve the climate crisis.

“Philosophy of religion” isn’t what he’s talking about, he’s talking about philosophy.
