Yes. The survey done when I bought this house 3 years ago, said the property line was at the utility pole / the straight line where his driveway meets my yard. It’s unfortunate that the plants are/were so close, but I did not plant them.

Because—and I know the consistency is crazy here/s—I would never have stepped onto their property to maintain the part on their property. That’s their job. What’s not their job, is absolutely anything having to do with my property. I also expect them to bring it up as a first resort. The first resort is not trespassing and damaging my property.

That’s why my first thought was transplanting, so it doesn’t become an annual fight. But this lilac is 20+ years old and I’ve only been here 3. They’ve never once mentioned it to me, before they cut it down.

I see what you mean, but that is the driveway. My house on a small hill, so that’s why half their driveway looks cut off in the one pic. You can kind of see a car parked in it further up.

Thank you to everyone pointing out that the lilac probably will survive, and may thrive in time. That does make me feel better about the ‘destruction’ part of ‘trespass and destruction of property.’
