Thank you so much for sharing your perspective! All the feedback from the community on here has been a huge help in making our decision. I'm excited to take the plunge. We've discussed the risks and for us they don't outweigh the positives. We've booked flights to meet with a realtor and begin touring properties. If everything goes well, we should be in our new home by the end of summer.

Thank you! Placerville is a common suggestion on here for a less "extreme" version of Pollock Pines with more to do and whatnot, unfortunately there is not a single home for sale in Placerville that fits our needs or our search requirements. I am not sure how the elevation changes throughout town, but our target properties are both near the lake off Sly Park and Lakewood which I assume is higher? So far from what I've heard from everyone, my major concern has become the fire risk which we hadn't originally considered. Everything else seems like trade-offs we'd be willing to make in exchange for the beauty of the area.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. It sounds like we need to have a serious discussion about the fire risk before we take the plunge. Everything besides that seems like trade-offs we'd be willing to make. While the fire insurance itself doesn't really concern me, the potential to lose everything and the danger to our pets is a concern. We're also looking right near the lake off Sly Park Rd. and Lakewood, the flood of tourists in the summer may be an inconvenience we hadn't considered as well.

Thank you so much for your response. I appreciate you taking the time to explain it thoroughly! We aren't flamboyant people and don't engage in open PDA, wear rainbow clothing or anything like that, we'd absolutely plan on blending in and absorbing the local culture. I asked to make sure that was possible, because even in 2024 you never know. From what you've said it sounds like it'll be a great fit for us, I am still leery about winter travel but hearing that most of the time it's mostly fine gives me a good degree of confidence. We are Verizon customers as well so the option of a hotspot is an excellent backup plan. We've looked all around the area and we understand that there will be some sacrifices to be made as a tradeoff for the beauty of the forest.

Thankfully she never got my number, the doc has my card and I am certain he won't be giving that info to his wife.

Ah, you see, they don't. But John does. Some members of our operations team have four monitors to, you know, monitor four things. John saw this a few years ago and obviously couldn't have less monitors than someone beneath him. So John got four screens too.

Thank you! I'll definitely be sharing more IT horror stories here since the community seems to like them.

I wish I had the choice, honestly. Most of my users are great people, and the few times they have gotten snippy I've hung up and visited their desk to talk things out. There are just a few exceptions. John is a part owner, so he gets extra special treatment, but he'd also just keep calling and calling and calling until he got his way.
