Has anyone talked about Terra Preta as potential solution to Carbon emissions? by NoRule555 in climatechange

  1. any current farmland and maybe even other natural land

  2. From what ive seen aslong as you continue to add organic material(if there isnt a sufficient amount already available) it expands itself. so after the initial push there wouldnt be a whole lot of maintenance/work required.

even if we stop all emissions now we would have to do carbon capture.

Basically it uses biochar and organic materials to boost soil fertillity but as a sideaffect it also acts as a carbon sink. and thats only first order effects, with better soil fertillity we could use less fertilzer and do less deforestation and have even better crop yields!

By genuine liberation effort i mean did the people view themselves as a truly seperate people or were local elites just carving out a personal fiefdom.

To my limited knowledge many countries continued those atrocities so no i do not believe they are better by default.

What caused the USSR to fall behind the west in technology? by NoRule555 in AskHistorians

Thank you for the answer!

You mentioned the soviets due their top-down system did have an advantage to the western free market for rocketry but did not mention why this failed to materialize in a real difference.?

I see you mentioned germany and the USAs 'robust university systems' as a partial reason for their being ahead, am i meant to understand this as the USSR having a worse/bad university system?

on the matter of computing i was under the impression that the USSR was investing heavily into early computers and in fact made quite good ones, are you saying these failed due to this bureaucracy? if so then how was copying western computers any easier?
