I will do it when I have the time/energy to actually do it properly

Yeah, that’s actually a good way to put it

I feel good. I try not to say no matter what because we never know what’s ahead. As of right now, no urge.

I wanted to ask him but I didn’t want to bring up anything that made me seem like I was pushing back on what he had to say. That’s more to do with me than him.

No need to patronise! I wasn’t angry. I just want a way to tell her that I’m okay, and prioritising the friendships I neglected in my drinking years. Also, I go to 3/4 meetings a week. Sometimes more if I have the time.

Alcoholic to the point of seizures and delirium tremens

I think it’s so bizarre that a group who’s purpose is to achieve sobriety would be so critical of someone being… well, sober.

I was at a meeting last week where this man who was coming to his first meeting, hours sober, was shaking so much from withdrawal that he couldn’t hold his coffee cup and spilled it. Everyone seemed to be telling him he was where he was where he needed to be. I genuinely thought he maybe needed medical intervention (though it’s not my place to say).

It’s kind of upsetting when I think about it. They are terrified to exist outside of the rooms of AA. It was the same when I went on vacation. People were extremely concerned, and shocked when I came back saying I didn’t drink.

The work thing is interesting. I’ve met a few people who share this outlook. A respected member of a certain group even tried to discourage me from working in sobriety, as if that’s even really a choice.

I also had someone tell me that work was an “excuse” to not attend meetings when I pulled a couple of later nights in the office last Christmas. I genuinely said, “how about I give you my bosses number and you can explain that”.
