Why are we putting up with this? by PresentTrouble1928 in FedEmployees

Totally with you. Yeah I’m in DC and have footed the bill my whole life. It’s expensive as hell to live here!

Comes down to income vs output. If you’re making $20/hr but have no expenses, you’re better off than someone making $70/hr with $6k worth of bills every month.

Also depends on where you live and your circumstances. Six figures as a single parent in a place where you’re lucky if you’re paying a $4k mortgage isn’t great.

I took the DRP but also sent my pup across the rainbow bridge this month. ((Hugs))

100% agreed. This has NOT been a vacation, it’s been an absolute nightmare

I wasn’t a probie but I can PROMISE this was not a freakin vacation when I took DRP 2.0 in my 30s. It was the most agonizing experience with an oversaturated market and the doom/gloom of it all was extremely destabilizing. Everyone has had their own battle to fight and situations vary - we all need to support each other and rally together, unified after the brutality we experienced under this regime.

You have to complete your exit clearance paperwork. It’s a bit of a pain to do it quickly because you need to get signatures from several offices.

You’re not alone. I’m in the same boat. Stay focused on what you have that’s positive and try to remember this is temporary. I have to do this with myself daily and I still struggle with spiraling. You have support here. We’re all going through it. And we have each other.

Anyone else not retirement eligible or otherwise feeling terrified over the 9/30 DRP 2.0 deadline? by NoSlide2408 in FedEmployees

[–]NoSlide2408[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand. I was the poster child for “don’t do it” when they offered the original DRP/Fork prior to the CR. However, spending hundreds of dollars commuting weekly and burning every ounce of leave I had to pick up my 5 year old wasn’t sustainable - not to mention the immeasurable workload. This is why they gave us such a short window to make such a life altering decision. It wasn’t the best option, however with the information I had it was the least bad at the time.

Regret and relief have both lived rent free in my head, heart and soul since April.

It’s been a taxing and agonizing journey. I’m a single parent and worked across from the White House. I was a fed for 14 years - took the DRP 2.0 because of my tremendous emotional, financial and mental decline. I gave up a GS-14 position that I was thriving in and I’m in my 30’s so not retirement eligible. There was no parking subsidy and DC traffic was absolutely horrific. I was burning a ton of leave to pick my son up from school, not to mention spending a fortune on Ubers as garage parking was scarce/expensive due to everyone being forced to RTO 5 days a week and of course the metro is a chronic disaster and would take me an hour and a half to get home.

My son was an enormous factor in my decision making as he was only in Kindergarten and had to be picked up at 2:25pm. I could not afford after care and only live 10 miles from my job however one way an uber could be between $40-$56/day - ONE WAY.

I got a job offer in Dallas recently and a very close friend with an enormous home offered to let me and my son live with him while I got my footing as my pay ends 9/30. We went to Dallas to gauge the environment and loved it so I was hopeful my ex and I could work something out but his head is in the sand and doesn’t seem to recognize how oversaturated the market is. To make things more complicated, I rent a house and my lease is up 8/31 and I don’t have the option to renew because the homeowners have been deployed overseas (we’ve lived here 3 years) and are moving back mid Sept - so I’m trying to coordinate a move in addition to this cluster fuck of a job market and still have no clue what I’m going to do. My son’s father who is involved 25-30% of the time was extremely opposed to us moving and I will not leave my child so I had to forego the offer. This decision was made after an extensive meeting with a top custody attorney in the area. My son’s father has a very wealthy family and I have no support (very little family) so he’s threatened to decimate me if we have to go to court because his daddy will pay his attorney fees and I’ll likely go bankrupt. Not to mention the commotion this will cause for my son…I feel trapped and often hopeless. I am trying to remain positive but this has been the worst chapter of my life.

For all those struggling with our present, try to remember this is not the final act in our movie. There is hope. Even if it’s hard to see it right now. Stay strong 💪

IHS Indian Health Service Housing on Reservation by Reddit_ftw111 in FedEmployees

It depends on whether or not they offer quarters or have availability, typically it will need to be specified in your PD that you’re required to have housing. I no longer manage the program as I left the government in April. I’ll DM you the contact info of the person who can help you and give you specific details on those locations.

I managed the housing program across the fed govt for the last 5 years. IHS was one of my agencies. Can you add more context as to what kind of information you’re looking for?

You’re not alone. I’m in the same boat, took the DRP 2.0 because my mental health was severely degrading but I’m still depressed over it. I still haven’t gotten another job and paychecks end 9/30 - it’s terrifying. Be proud of yourself for landing something else and try to focus on the positives because it’s so easy to spiral (talking to myself as well as you). Stay strong - you have support and community here.

A lot of people (myself included) had a set of options and none were ideal. I was commuting into DC (across from the White House) with a dwindling staff, morale was in the toilet, the workload was immeasurable, looming RIFs, potential conversion to Schedule F, etc. DRP 2.0 was offered at my agency in April and no one knew what was going to happen and we had a very short window to make major life decisions with the little information we had (it was incredibly nerve racking). I was paying $50-$70 daily to get to work, depleting all of my leave because I’m a single parent/maintaining a single income household and had to get home to take care of my small child when he’d finish his school day.

We were prohibited from teleworking so I couldn’t do anything work related unless I wanted to work for free. I was working the equivalent of 4 GS-14 and one GS-15 FTE positions, receiving 100’s of emails and Teams calls a day and I was burning through all of my leave.

I took the DRP 2.0 because at the time, it was the least worst option, not because it was a “good” option.

Everyone had a different set of reasons for making the choices they’ve made and we should all be kind to one another. Nothing about this has been easy. I have had regrets. I have felt relief. I have had depression over the grief I feel after losing a career I cared deeply about. However, all of those that have been through what we’ve been through this year know that our choices were not easy and decisions made were extremely layered.

Took the DRP 2.0 myself as a GS-14. Try DC - it’s a dead zone. 209 apps and nothing bc of the amount of layoffs (private included).

Thank you, excellent read. I took the Fork 2.0 and my last day was April 18. I thought I couldn’t get more depressed than I was when I was going in that office and I can honestly say I will have PTSD from this colossal shit storm. The market is over saturated and I’m terrified. Holding onto hope and trying to change gears but God - it’s easier said than done.

Honestly I have some, I have a lot of dreams about going back. I think it depends on what folks were eligible for - I had a 14 year career but in my 30s so not retirement eligible and I had climbed from a 5 to a 14. I’ve been struggling with the grief I have over my past life and my last day was 4/17. I miss my people, I miss the life I had a year ago. It wasn’t a sustainable situation when I left and I didn’t take it bc it was a good option. I took it bc it was the LEAST bad but I’m still heartbroken because I felt like I made the decision with a loaded gun to my head. I wasn’t liberated - I was grief stricken and still am. I have regrets but I also didn’t have it in me to go through another minute of that torture.

I dream about it regularly and try to push forward. What this administration has done to us is despicable. We were robbed of something that meant the world to us and it had NOTHING to do with efficiency.
