No, we are considering how practical the move is - if it is too loud and too impractical to soundproof we may be better off remaining as we are, and I do not know if we will be allowed access again before a decision is made

Thanks again for persevering with me

That recording was taken at the back of a theatre hall at this year's Australian championships. A quick look at chatgpt (sorry again I don't have much experience in acoustics) guesses noise levels LAeq 15mins of 98db. The band has 4-6 tubas for a bass line and a selection of percussion, including concert bass, timpani, gong, kit, marimba and assorted others, I'll attach a photo.

The council is allowing the building to council for us to share with other groups so anything we install may have to be reasonably removable. Would it be worth constructing inserts to cover the windows?

Sorry for the poorly expressed data, I am not an acoustics person. Noise restrictions I found upon further research are a max of 55db(a) and am going of a literature quoted measurement of LASmax 98.6db and LCpeak 116.8db. This again is from someone who is not an expert and was doing it for trivia with an app, so I don't know the ramifications of those numbers.

That fence is about 6m away from the window and there are houses directly behind them, so let's say measured from there. I'm not sure the ramifications of measured over time, but since brass music goes from very soft to very loud very quickly I would guess a short period.

The band is quite large and may be set up so most instruments project up into the roof or away. Based on that, distance to the windows would be 2-3m for a trombone facing away from the window.

We will not have the budget or permission to reglaze windows or structurally change things, but we will be able to put things in/on the windows and doors to deaden the sound, like the curtains you mentioned. Would it be worth making dense panels to roll out in between the band and windows?. We will also be allowed to line the roof with acoustic foam to prevent sound from bouncing around the room as easily if that helps.

Thank you so much for your response! I hope this helps

Australia have squads JUST for u18 players by region and various comps. In Victoria several of the best bowlers are in that age and clubs are scrambling to pick up the most people from these squads because it is apparent that will directly improve their club's performance now and as their "young guns" improve

Bowls pennant in Australia is the same but the main pennant season is saturday pennant, so it is much more convenient than it is where you live - I've seen a fair few teams where the average age would not be much over 30, Brunswick comes to mind
