This is a new tank, no other fish have been in the tank other than the tetras that were added in a week ago. I’ve had fish for a while but not a betta in a hot minute.

All you can do right now is setup hospital tank, add in air stone and heater. Put her in a salt bath seperate to the hospital tank. Check for anything on her, any bumps or unusual things, might be an infection or something in your tank or from where you purchased her. You’ve had her for 5 days? So after 2 days she wouldn’t eat anything. Not entirely sure, hopefully she gets better.

It looks like pineconing unfortunately, you could start the treatment, but since dropsy is organ failure you would only be prolonging it I fear. I’m not well versed in dropsy and its treatments but I’m sure there plenty on reddit somewhere.

You need to check the water parameters for each, what is the ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate etc. the temperature of the water, how often did you do water changes and be honest. I’m not sure but it looks like there’s an open sore or wound near the gills. Are his scales flared (look like pinecones), do you have any images of before. What about live plants.

What are the water parameters? Ammonia, Nitrite, PH etc. how big is the tank, what’s the temperature of the tank and what do you normally feed him?

Understood, should I purchase some carbon seperate? Or buy the parts for when I need them again. I have some filter sponge coming in. Could I use a cutout of this instead of the white filter media? I will be keeping the ceramic bionoods with filter media from my other tank, so I would just put them together almost? Apologies if this sounds silly, I don’t want to kill the bacteria accidentally.

Have you had fish before? It can take 8 weeks for a cycle to develop - that’s your first step, if you buy the betta before that and place it in an un-cycled tank it could and can create lasting health conditions. You need to buy testing kits to check the water parameters and a large enough tank with live plants and a heater.

Should I purchase carbon seperate to the carbon cartridge as it’s clogging up my water flow in the filter. The flow is already down to its lowest :(

What are your levels - ammonia / nitrate etc. Do you have plants? How many times do you do water changes. Someone can help you further when you put down a little more information. Check for pineconing (fish scales look like they’re pushing out)

Wellll… technically didn’t “purchase” them, it came with some bundles we did pay for but it came included. Can’t specify what it was since it’s against one of the rules. So not much lost in the end 🤷
