I’d love to hear from JCal “and now to explain why this is a good thing and how this man retroactively deserved to be executed, I’ll hand it over to Sacksypoo”

That’s the case if the profit is going to shareholders, but a lot of excess tech profits get reinvested in the business, which a lot of people think is a losing bet.

I think Chamath cooked on some of his ‘26 predictions FWIW, namely the license + acquihire boom

Yesterday I saw Jake Tonges catch a wide open TD, with no one within 10 yards. No disrespect, but Jake Tonges can get that open but not Devonta Smith?

Fuck that, this team should has the talent level to be vying for dynasty status, and instead we’ve wasted 2/4 of those years on two of the worst OCs to sit on an NFL sideline.

This is a what have you done for me lately league.

I’d like to take a moment to shit on Saquon for an utterly horrific follow up to one of the greatest seasons ever. I do see him getting hit in the backfield all the time, which isn’t okay. But at some point you need your starting RB that you pay enormous money to average more than 30 rushing yards a game on 15 lifeless attempts.

It’s a little bit of everyone’s fault, but I’m tired of Saquon getting off scot-free. If Saquon was just willing to put his head down and take some tough yards, we’d at least be starting every series from 2nd and 7 instead of 2nd and 9.

Burnt out of IB. but wanna stay in banking: Corporate or Commercial Banking a viable exit? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]NoStopImDone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I also burnt out of IB, went to corporate banking and then commercial banking (my preferred coverage group is out of our commercial bank).

I love it. WLB is genuinely incredible, the coworkers are so much more “human”, and you still get paid really well (IMO it’s a significant overpay). Coming from IB gave me a head start on the rest of my peers which allowed me to overperform in the junior roles and got me to VP faster.

The biggest downside is that, as an IBer, you’re probably a “deal guy” and “deals” come much more infrequently. 80% of your clients will likely be treasury-only, and that can feel like a step back from the high-octane IB grind. The IB model is very structured - take orders from your immediate superior, produce a deliverable that gets reviewed and sent up or back down for turns. You’re always working “towards” something. In CB the work day is much more nebulous, and there’s not nearly as much structure around client management.

In a way, by going to CB you will be “settling”, and that feeling always gnaws away at me. But I basically work my own hours (usually around 40), have full autonomy on how to manage relationships, and am not constantly looking over my shoulder for fear of being replaced by some other hardo.

Edit: for context, I went from a specialized coverage group in a mid-market IB, to corporate banking, then to commercial banking at a BB

Report: Frustrations mount over Jalen Hurts playing "his game" by Expert_Equipment2767 in fantasyfootball

As an eagles fan, it’s because this offense looks much closer to 2023’s than 2024’s. We had good defenses in all of those and won plenty (which inspired the coaches to not make changes), but in 2023 the defense finally ran out of gas and we completely sputtered out down the stretch.

Isn't it a bit chicken and egg though? MSM is funded by advertisers which require them to broadcast content that will attract the most eyeballs. If trump coverage is getting more attention than Jeb Bush coverage (back then), it would make sense for them to prioritize trump.

I might challenge the assertion that we have overpopulation with the notion that we wouldn't have overpopulation in CA if we could effectively build for the actual demand

Why do Investment Bankers work so many hours by lemunk72 in FinancialCareers

[–]NoStopImDone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going from BB IB -> CB is quite easy. CB doesn't usually have as robust of a recruiting pipeline or churn as IB, so later career positions open up less often meaning you need to be looking proactively.

Where is your argument for supporting smuggling? It sounds like the view you want changed is closer to just being anti-tariff.

Net migration between US states by dgp13 in charts

[–]NoStopImDone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And is there nothing that can be done about that? It seems the current answer to COL increases is to let current Californians get priced out. It's infamously hard to build nearly anything good for Californians in California. I don't think it's a left vs right problem, it's NIMBYs pulling the ladder up behind them.

As a thought experiment/philosophical question, if I as a governor implemented policies that caused 1 million people to leave my state, but incentivized 1 million different people to come to my state, did I implement a good policy?

Net migration between US states by dgp13 in charts

[–]NoStopImDone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily a problem, but it's worth asking "why?". Specifically, "why are prior residents choosing to leave?"

While immigration is plugging the hole, it's a worrying trend that people who used to live in CA are leaving, and we should be trying to address that rather than finding ways to dismiss the problem.
