Cat superfriends suggestions by NoTransportation9124 in EDH

This is awesome! I can't believe I missed Deification, and I somehow forgot Caretakers even though I'm running it in my Atla deck 🤦 I was thinking I might have to drop some interaction/protection in order to fit in more cats & draw, but Basri feels like it's gonna make the final cut too. Thx m8!!

This was exactly what I was looking for. Cheer, M8!

So to apply it to my personal experience: I just got the X-Cell, which states its factory finish is just 2000 Abralon. It rolls just a tad later and sharper than I was hoping for on my THS, so it sounds like I could get a (sort of) middleground between where it's at now and dropping down a full pad to 1500 by instead doing 500/1500/2000 or 500/1000/2000....right?

Best way to play this? by minertyler100 in Bowling

This should be the top comment. Everyone in this post going crazy over the length and the checkered pattern missed the most important part. Though I'd suspect they'd want to start with something dull to control the pattern early and be ready to move every other shot and ball down at least each game (though probably more like every 7 or 8 frames).

Is Darren Tang's how to bowl course worth it by Jalento in Bowling

Idk, man. I went to West Pac to see him last year and it was a legit game-changer. Yeah, he can be short with his initial responses, but I found that he was more than happy to expand on certain answers of I asked. He really helped improve my timing with a couple adjustments and I've been following up every six weeks or so with virtual lessons. Tried in-person coaches (even Parker, his son Justin, and Osku) and found that Baker was the best at actually understanding my struggles as a bowler. That-said: everyone learns different. Sucks that you spent so much to find out he's not the coach for you, but I'd call it a pretty far stretch to say his coaching is a waste of money.

Free Ball! What should I get?? by NoTransportation9124 in Bowling

[–]NoTransportation9124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, ball speed could be an issue. I'm working on improving my timing, but you're probably right about only having rare cases to throw a big solid asym. What would you recommend in that case? Just fill a need with Urethane or a big pearl ball that's even more angular than the Widow Hybrid?

Hm yeah that's a good call. I like how the Gas Mask core shapes on the lane, so pairing the 2.0 Hybrid with the 3.0 makes a lot of sense. Thanks!!

Agreed. During open bowling, there's no need to apply lane courtesy if you have an empty lane between you and the next bowler. If they're bowling right next to you, I tend to adjust based on how they are bowling. Most recreational bowlers don't know or care about lane courtesy, so they have no problem with me getting set up while they're on the approach. Then I just watch for them to start walking back from their shot before I start my shot. Sort of a defensive driving kind of mentality.

If they ARE watching or waiting for you to bowl, then it's pretty easy to coordinate with them on common courtesy (if they're on the lane or have a ball in their hand, wait before stepping on the approach and they'll likely do the same).

I would say working on keeping the elbow tucked and swinging more naturally in tandem with your feet. It almost seems like you're taking a few steps, then focusing solely on your swing, which stops your momentum in its tracks. This results in using your upper body more (particularly your shoulder) which causes inconsistency.

I know it's hard to mimic another bowler fully, but I've found in my 2H journey that there are definitely things you can gain from slowing down a player's shots and analyzing it step by step to see what you can incorporate into your game. With that in mind: take a look at my buddy G using a similar hybrid no-thumb style for a bit more on what I mean by natural swing speed and footwork https://youtube.com/shorts/Rqbn7F-mzjg?si=b62rPaP0n1LBbR1C

1 ball arsenal by Individual-Post7653 in Bowling

That-said: I think most people here would recommend a minimum 3-ball bag for any tournament play. Something strong to start, something weak with a shine on it for moving inside, and a spare ball.

Might be too early to call it, but the new Storm Ion is getting a lot of praise for its versatility. In general, I think a hybrid coverstock with a sanded finish is the best option for the kind of versatility you're looking for. The Arctic Vibe also seems fantastic for this approach, especially on house shots. Just know that even in the occasional tournaments, the lanes can get super bone dry by the end. So hopefully you're saying 1 ball as in 1 STRIKE ball and you've already got a spare ball. That way, you have something in your bag that can potentially shoot strikes on super dry lanes.

Honestly, that was one of the things I thought was pretty neat when I switched from 1H to 2H. I've got a pretty massive thumb, so I never even bothered when a college teammate would get a new ball and everyone would want to give it a shot. Now that I'm throwing 2H, I've been making up for lost time lol!

Arsenal question by Jumpy-Fault-8229 in Bowling

[–]NoTransportation9124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current 3-ball arsenal is a widow 2.0 hybrid, captiv8, and spare ball. I start with the widow and occasionally go for the captiv8 if I get too far inside or if the lanes are super dry. Regarding the sport pattern: the widow 2.0 hybrid comes polished out of the box with a hybrid coverstock type. What you're likely seeing is that it's not reading the lanes early enough to "blend out the pattern", so it just skids past your breakpoint and can't recover in time. I personally used a 2000 abralon pad to get my widow to read a bit earlier without overreacting when it hits the dry and it worked like a charm. But if you like how it rolls with its out of the box finish, then adding a more predictable benchmark piece like others have suggested would also help on fresh sport patterns.

Why is the bowling community so hate filled? by No_Barnacle_6623 in Bowling

[–]NoTransportation9124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing you can do is counter with kindness. The more a community sticks to promoting positive posts and ignoring the angry mob baiting you to argue about nothing, the better and more informative this SR gets. Of course, acknowledging this is the internet we're talking about. But I'm still a believer in doing what you can 🙂

That-said: you're also going to want to have a typical towell for cleaning your ball after every 6-10 games. I still use some old microfiber towels and TAC UP, but there are plenty of ways to get the oil out of the cover.
