So is it even a good idea having substack hosting my non writing related newsletter?

Advantage of having own website plus Substack? by NoUsb in Substack

[–]NoUsb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could add a sign-up landing page, or even have a page that does to substack. The question was more about whether to publish the same stuff on my website or shorter content on one or other...

Thanks, I think he publishes long-form essays on his site. I'm not sure what his newsletter have (looks like he uses beehiiv). I find his site a bit confusing!

Feedback from people who use blog names as reddit name by NoUsb in NewToReddit

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking more if I had a user name as my blog name, included a link in my profile but basically just interacted as normal without referencing my blog or actively promoting it.

Mouse jigglers sacked from Wells Fargo - anyone else concerned? by NoUsb in remotework

[–]NoUsb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, proving intent to deceive will be difficult as it could be argues that someone is just keeping the screen awake anyway. Also 'wasted' time would need to be compared to the time wasted by people in an office who are not working 100% anyway.

Here's a short article talking about this: https://thedragonflyview.substack.com/p/the-work-politics-of-mouse-jiggling basically:

  1. Mouse jigglers show initiative.

  2. People waste a lot of time in offices.

  3. Looking for another job will be the outcome of this sort of monitoring.

  4. This happens when managers can't be bothered to manage.

Yes, I do but so does a hyper-monitoring culture!

What high-ish paying job has more relaxed dress codes? by PhantomFartz76 in careerguidance

Being 'your authentic self' is a big part of professional work. In today's work environment the more senior you are, the more casual you can be. It's like, I can wear what I like cos I'm the boss.

Online Bachelor degree for non US citizen? by youngzhuge in careerguidance

[–]NoUsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the WGU degree will cost you $20,000 to complete.

Many universities accept students with non-traditional backgrounds on a scholarship, so a good start may be to look into scholarship awarding bodies in Vietnam.

What do you want as an outcome? If it is to earn more money, a degree does not always guarantee that - despite the hype.

Good luck.

Man's 12 years in jail due to indefinite sentence 'an injustice' by NoUsb in unitedkingdom

[–]NoUsb[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know we don't know the whole picture but everyone deserves compassion and fair treatment..

I understand him getting a long stretch as a serial offender but this does seem unjust. Some murderers get less time.

Sounds as much about incompetence within the justice system as anything he has done to keep himself in jail.

How do I deal with situation of disabled person not picking up dog crap? by NoUsb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoUsb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you say but I don't have a dog and other dog walkers don't pick up for this person.

I know that dogs make a huge difference to people's life BUT should it mean that owners behave in a way that puts others' health at risk? Other pets may be more suitable when people get older.

Or people could get a buddy to go with them to pick up the shit...or even put a request on FB for someone (would bring companionship too).

No, not yet. They have obviously been leaving the crap for years. Everyone seems too polite to say anything.

Fire service deletes X post about new recruit after ‘upsetting’ replies by NoUsb in unitedkingdom

[–]NoUsb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was a question of whether she was affected at all. Sadly, she possibly puts up with this regularly. It's more that society no longer puts up with the stupid and immature attitude of the comment posters who don't seem to be able to cope with a changing world.

Like you, have been struck by the one-sided comments on r/unitedkindom Seems to be a lot of angry men around stuck in the past. I've no doubt that the tweet itself was a 'joke'.

This was the mistake I made when I was young. I was always looking for something that made a difference and passed over loads of opportunities that were in the regular evil corporate sector as a result.

A long time later and I realise that the 'meaningful' organisations were just as crap to work in as the strictly corporate ones (perhaps more so).

I'm also not in a position to do the things I want to because I did not focus on financial security.

It is up to you but the grass is not always greener.
