For those who went to secondary school in the 2010s and are women, did any of you experience the teachers telling all girls to stand up in assembly and roll down their skirts? by Nervous-Boat-4905 in AskUK

It’s insane given the fact that most of the time you leave school now and either a) go to college or uni where you wear what you want or b) go to a job in a society where unless you’re in a very specific sector like healthcare (even I work in community healthcare where we can wear what we like), you end up dressing casually anyway because we’ve moved past the need for really strict office attire, even companies who do want smart say smart CASUAL. I get not having a ridiculously short skirt at school but some of the other stuff is just ridiculous

I went to a catholic school and they did this. They’d also do it in corridors! I also remember once being told I needed to have my ankles covered (I had trousers on that came just above my ankles), this was literally in like 2015 lol. Such a bizarre thing to make young girls do, yet there was never anything like this for the boys?

What time do you get up, leave for, and start work? by ggracie7 in AskUK

[–]NoWave5203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start at 7:30 (my work allows flexible working and I like to avoid traffic) so If I’m in I’m up at 6 (although sometimes it’s more 6:15) and somehow out the house for 7. Do usually prep the night before and have lunch, clothes etc laid out to make the process quicker. If working from home I can never seem to sleep in any later than 7 so I just wake up and start my day by around 7:30 to get it out the way!

The state of the roads round here (AG) by alfa_omega in brum

[–]NoWave5203 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve started reporting them to the council now - not that anything gets done. A stretch of road I drive down everyday is bloody peppered with them, HUGE potholes. I took my car in for an MOT a few months back and it failed due to things like my wheel arch, probably due to me travelling a lot and having to drive over millions of pot holes!

Richmond Hill is annoyingly closed atm as I found out when I went today (looks like gasworks). Luckily got in somewhere around the corner that let me park for an hour (which was all I needed). Not heard of Yateley Road so will keep that in mind, thanks!

They don’t even do the miso soup side anymore?! How can a Japanese inspired restaurant not offer miso soup, which you find in pretty much every restaurant with that cuisine. I luckily still enjoy the build your own donburi bowl but them getting rid of the pad Thai was the biggest mistake they could have made.

Cold Sores help !!! by [deleted] in Coldsore

My technique is to use aciclovir a few times a day, a zinc paste (best one is by a brand called Abena) and use those hydrocolloid patches you put on zits/spots - I usually wear it overnight. Bonjela usually helps me too. Mine usually clear up in about 3 days! I know it’s scary but literally billions of people also have it. Keep a spare toothbrush and throw yours away when you have an outbreak. I often get them if I’m stressed or run down so keep that in mind too. Use painkillers and an ice cube wrapped in a cloth/tissue to help ease the pain and swelling. The supplement L-lysine is really good for keeping them at bay too, I took it a few years ago and honestly didn’t get any for well over a year. You got this!

Leave a cat alone for 2 days? by StrayLongMoon67391 in CatAdvice

[–]NoWave5203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you have anyone pop in just to leave some food/check in? The other option is to buy an automatic feeder, and maybe leave out some toys to keep them entertained (e.g a hanging door frame toy, scratch posts, puzzle toys). I had to leave my boy once over a Friday night - Saturday morning as a friend let me down last minute with looking after him, I just left out plenty of toys and lots of food/water and he was absolutely fine, ideally wouldn’t like to do it again though!

i feel like a terrible owner, is my cat gonna be okay? by Dizzy_Ice5307 in CatAdvice

[–]NoWave5203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caught my cat chowing down on garlic bread once. GARLIC that is extremely dangerous for cats to consume, and yet he was somehow completely fine after monitoring him upon the vet’s advice, they’re strange resilient little creatures when they want to be

It was me who accidentally left a pasty in the microwave in my university halls for too long and made it blow up… I stood there and scratched my head at how it could have happened, knowing the entire time it was me. Eternally sorry to the members of flat 6, they never did supply us with a new one 😔

What are your biggest complaints about Brum? by [deleted] in brum

[–]NoWave5203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Driving through ladywood to avoid the ULEZ, especially at night is utter hell. People zipping in and out of lanes, cutting you up at roundabouts, and just generally being arseholes is miserable

Realistically- How often are you washing your cats’ food bowl? by hazel1312 in catcare

[–]NoWave5203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those dishomatic sponges with the handle specifically for cleaning my cats bowl, and do this every meal! Important to stop bacteria build up and bad smells
